Digital scanning rooms, open treatment bays, braces-adjustment areas and sterilisation should be kept neutral and fragrance-free. Because patients return many times over a long treatment, one consistent signature held at the same low level (and kept light for younger patients) matters more than fragrance variety; staff should not increase intensity because of olfactory adaptation. A stale, closed-up or disinfectant smell is managed with cleaning, ventilation, HVAC and moisture control at source first; a signature scent is the finishing layer on clean, well-aired air, never a mask.
