Nobody has ever walked into their own clinic and thought the fragrance was too strong. That single fact, and not the difference in floor areas or air-conditioning, is why chains end up smelling inconsistent six months after everything was set correctly.
Quick answers — read this first
How do I keep fragrance consistent across clinics of different sizes? By treating consistency as a recurring check rather than a purchase. Set each branch on its own, once, by walking in from outside and choosing the lowest level at which you notice a clean room rather than a fragrance. Write that setting on a branch sheet with a date and a name, engage the key-lock, and then re-check it by walking in every quarter. Different sizes and different AC systems only mean the branches start at different numbers. That part is easy. Holding those numbers is the actual job.

Why does the level drift at all? Because everybody in the building stops registering it within about twenty minutes, including you. Someone eventually says the reception does not smell of anything any more, and the dial goes up. It goes up and it never comes back down, because no one who sits in a room all day ever perceives it as too strong. Over a year of small honest adjustments a branch that was set correctly becomes the branch patients describe as strong, and nobody can point to the moment it changed.

What does the audit cost? Ten minutes per branch, four times a year. No hardware, no service contract, no software. The only thing worth spending on is the machine itself: one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 per site past roughly 1,500 sq ft, or one SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899 where a branch's patient-facing side is a single reception under about 750 sq ft. Maintenance contracts and service visits are not published by SOSA and should be confirmed rather than assumed.
The short answer
Short answer: by auditing rather than installing. Set the level once in each branch, because different sizes and AC systems mean different starting numbers, write it on a branch sheet, engage the key-lock, and re-check by walking in from outside every quarter. Levels creep upward over months, always upward and never down, so the correction is nearly always to turn a branch back down. One Vaayu (₹11,999) per site, or a Sukoon (₹1,899) below about 750 sq ft.
The pick: one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) per branch with the intensity recorded and the key-lock engaged, which is the single feature that makes a quarterly audit meaningful - or one SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) at a small branch.
Next step: send the branch list with floor areas and AC types, and we will send back a one-page audit sheet per site with a starting level and the questions to ask at the door - Ask for a clinic scenting plan.

Straight answer
How does a group keep ambient fragrance consistent across clinics with different sizes and different AC systems?
By accepting that consistency is a maintained condition rather than a delivered one. The size and air-conditioning differences are real and they matter, but they are the easy half: a branch of 900 sq ft on wall-mounted splits and one of 2,400 sq ft on ducted central AC will simply need different numbers, and once you have set both correctly they read the same at the door. That part takes an afternoon. The hard half is that both of those settings will be wrong within a year unless somebody checks them, and they will be wrong in the same direction. Levels creep upward. Always upward, never down. The mechanism is not carelessness, it is ordinary human olfaction: everyone in the building stops registering a constant smell within about twenty minutes, so by mid-morning the front desk genuinely cannot smell the reception. Eventually someone says it does not smell of anything any more, the dial goes up a step, and nobody ever proposes the opposite - because no person who has been sitting in a room all day has ever thought it smelled too strong. Repeat that three times over a year, in one branch and not the others, and you have a chain that is inconsistent for reasons no one can reconstruct. So the method is: set once, record, lock, and audit on foot. Set each branch in its own building by walking in from outside after at least twenty minutes away, choosing the lowest level at which you notice a clean room rather than a fragrance. Write the setting, the machine position, the run hours, the date and the name of whoever set it onto a one-page branch sheet. Engage the key-lock on the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, or on the equivalent machine at a smaller site, so that changing it becomes a deliberate act rather than a passing one. Then once a quarter, one named person arrives at each branch unannounced, from outside, at roughly the same time of day, and answers two questions: can I name the fragrance, and has it gone by the time I reach the desk. If they can name it, the branch is too strong regardless of what the sheet says. Check the dial against the sheet at the same time; a discrepancy is the finding, not the smell. The honest concession is that the correction is nearly always downward, and the cheapest improvement available to any chain is to take every branch down one step and see whether a single person mentions it. Under about 750 sq ft, the machine is a SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899, and the audit is identical. The standing limits do not vary between branches: no clinical or therapeutic claim, fragrance alongside cleaning and ventilation and never used to cover another smell, and procedure, recovery and photography rooms unscented everywhere. Ask for a clinic scenting plan and send the branch list.
Set each branch once, write the number down, engage the key-lock, and re-check by walking in from outside every quarter. Levels creep upward and never downward, so the audit is mostly about turning branches back down.
The feature that makes an audit possible. One SOSA Vaayu per branch - adjustable intensity, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers and a key-lock, so a recorded setting is still the real setting three months later. ₹11,999. Under about 750 sq ft, the Sukoon at ₹1,899 instead.

The machine, by branch size

Different-sized branches need different machines, and that is not an inconsistency - it is how they end up reading the same. Choose by each site's own floor area and air path, then audit both the same way.

SOSA Vaayu
Branches past about 1,500 sq ft
SOSA Vaayu
Waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft. Adjustable intensity, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, under 38dB, auto-stop and key-lock, freestanding or wall and HVAC mountable. The key-lock is the audit feature: without it, a recorded setting is only a note about what the machine used to be on.

SOSA Sukoon
Small branches - under about 750 sq ft
SOSA Sukoon
Ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering roughly 270-320 sq ft, supplied with three 15ml hotel-inspired fragrances. Where a branch's patient-facing side is one reception, this reaches the perceived level a larger machine reaches in a larger sibling, and it goes on the same quarterly audit sheet.

Three reasons a level drifts upward

Drift is not a discipline failure and it is not anyone's fault. It has three causes and all three push in the same direction.

1
Understand why nobody ever turns it down
The people in the room are the worst judges of the room
A constant smell stops registering within about twenty minutes, which is why you cannot judge your own clinic and neither can your front desk. What follows is predictable. Somebody notices the reception no longer smells of anything, mentions it, and the level goes up a step. That is an honest correction made from inside a room by a person whose nose has adapted, and it is made again a few months later. The reverse never happens, because no one sitting in a room all day has ever perceived it as too strong. This is the whole mechanism. It is why the audit has to be done by someone arriving from outside, and why the correction almost always goes one way.
Tip: Ask the front desk after a full working week rather than on the day. They sit in that air longer than anyone and their answer is still worth having.

2
Expect the seasons and the room to move it too
Dry months read thin, humid months read heavy, fabric holds everything
Even without anyone touching the dial, the same setting behaves differently across a year. In a dry inland winter with the air conditioning working hard, a clean light profile reads thin by mid-morning - which is exactly when it gets raised. In a humid month the same setting reads heavier and lingers. Add the room's own changes: new upholstery, a new rug, curtains taken down for cleaning, a door propped open in a busy season, a partition added. Any of these shifts what a patient meets at the door without anybody having made a decision. A quarterly check catches all of it; an annual one does not, because by then the level has been corrected twice.
Tip: Do the audit at the same time of day each quarter, mid-morning after the clinic has been open an hour, so you are comparing like with like.

3
Audit the dial as well as the air
A discrepancy against the sheet is the finding, not the smell
When the named person arrives, they do two things. First, at the door: can I name the fragrance, and has it gone by the time I reach the desk. If they can name it, the branch is too strong regardless of what any sheet says - if a patient can identify the fragrance, it is too strong. Second, at the machine: is the intensity still the recorded number, is the key-lock still engaged, is the timer still set to that branch's clinic hours, and is the machine still where it was placed. A branch that has been quietly turned up tells you something a smell test alone will not, which is that the standard is not held there. Record the check with a date, and correct downward on the spot.

The SOSA principle
Consistency across unlike clinics is not something you install with the machines. It is something one person walks in and checks, and the correction is almost always downward.
A fragrance level has only one natural direction of travel, and it is up. Everything in this method exists to push back against that one fact.
SOSA Vaayu
The setting that has to hold: SOSA Vaayu, adjustable intensity and a key-lock, so what you recorded is what the machine is still doing. ₹11,999.

The audit, step by step

This is the whole check as I would give it to whoever is doing it, and it takes about ten minutes a branch.

The SOSA plan
The quarterly fragrance audit, step by step
The step What to do
SOSA VaayuSet it once, in the building
Walk in from outside after twenty minutes away. Choose the lowest level at which you notice a clean room rather than a fragrance.
SOSA SukoonRecord and lock
Setting, machine position, run hours, date and the name of whoever set it, on one sheet. Then engage the key-lock.
The walk-in, every quarter
Unannounced, from outside, mid-morning. Two questions: can I name it, and has it gone by the time I reach the desk.
Check the machine against the sheet
Intensity still the recorded number, key-lock still engaged, timer still on clinic hours, unit still in its place.
Ask the front desk
After a full week rather than on the day. They sit in that air longest, and a complaint from them is worth acting on immediately.
Correct downward and re-record
Almost always down a step. Write the new number and the date. A branch nobody has corrected in a year has not been checked.

The full procedure this audit belongs inside - who owns which decision across a group - is set out in how to standardise ambient fragrance across a multi-city chain. And if you are wondering why two branches of the same size need different numbers in the first place, that is answered in whether every branch of a hair clinic should smell the same. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel.

The SOSA hair-clinic specification

Two machines cover almost every branch in a group, and using two different ones is how unlike buildings end up reading alike. Both are dry enough to sit on the public side of a building that does surgical work. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Set each branch in its own building, record the number, engage the key-lock and re-check on foot every quarter, expecting to correct downward. The standing limits hold at every site: fragrance is an interior decision with no clinical or therapeutic claim of any kind; it works alongside cleaning and ventilation, never instead of them, and is never used to cover another smell; and procedure, post-procedure and photography rooms stay unscented in every branch, with the treating clinician's judgement overriding any plan in their own rooms. A note from Sonal

Founders describe this problem to me as a technical one - different sizes, different air conditioning, different layouts - and it is genuinely easier than they think. Setting four unlike branches so they read the same at the door takes one afternoon each and a walk in from the street. What is hard, and what nobody warns them about, is that all four settings will have moved within a year, and they will all have moved in the same direction.

The reason is not indiscipline. It is that everyone inside a building stops smelling it, so the only correction anybody ever proposes from inside is upward. Someone says the reception smells of nothing now, the dial goes up, and the person who did it was being conscientious. Three of those in a year and the branch that was set perfectly is the one patients describe as strong. So the only thing that actually holds a chain steady is a person arriving from outside, four times a year, asking two questions at the door and then looking at the dial. Ten minutes. No contract, no software.

On hardware: one Vaayu at ₹11,999 per branch past about 1,500 sq ft, and I would care more about its key-lock than about anything else on the specification sheet. Under 750 sq ft, a Sukoon at ₹1,899. Procedure, recovery and photography rooms get nothing at all, at every site, permanently. Service contracts and maintenance terms are not published, so ask us rather than assuming they exist. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

How do I keep fragrance consistent across clinics with different sizes and AC systems?
Treat consistency as something you audit rather than something you install. Set the level once in each branch by walking in from outside, record the setting, position and run hours on a one-page sheet, and engage the key-lock. Then have one named person walk into each branch unannounced once a quarter and compare what they meet at the door against that sheet. Different sizes and AC systems only mean different starting numbers.
Why do fragrance levels drift upward rather than downward?
Because a constant smell stops registering for anyone in the building within about twenty minutes. Eventually someone says the reception no longer smells of anything and the dial goes up a step, which is an honest correction made by a person whose nose has adapted. The reverse never happens, because nobody who has been sitting in a room all day perceives it as too strong. Repeat that a few times and a correctly set branch becomes the strong one.
Who should carry out the audit, and how often?
One named person for the whole group - the founder, a clinical lead or an area manager - four times a year, arriving unannounced from outside at roughly the same time of day. They answer two questions at the door: can I name the fragrance, and has it gone by the time I reach the desk. Then they check the dial, the key-lock, the timer and the machine position against the branch sheet and correct on the spot.
What do I do if a branch has been turned up?
Turn it back down to the recorded number, or lower, and write the date on the sheet. The discrepancy itself is the useful finding, because it tells you the standard is not being held at that site rather than that the room smells wrong. Then re-engage the key-lock and remind the branch that one named person is permitted to change it. If a patient has objected at any point, the answer is always to reduce or switch off rather than explain.
Do different AC systems mean different machines?
Not necessarily. The machine follows floor area and air path: past roughly 1,500 sq ft it is one SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 per site, and below about 750 sq ft a SOSA Sukoon at Rs 1,899. What the AC type changes is where the unit sits and what number it runs at. On ducted central air a wall or HVAC mount on the supply side carries the profile along a corridor; on wall-mounted splits you get pockets instead and the position matters more.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the planning advice applies to any brand.

Facts verified 5 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with adjustable intensity, a 400ml refillable tank lasting 90+ days a fill depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, operation under 38dB at 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification, which are electrical and compliance marks and not medical approvals. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or equipment. The SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is an ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering roughly 270-320 sq ft and is supplied with three 15ml fragrances; the water-based Hotel Collection (₹299 / ₹999 / ₹1,799) is an ultrasonic fragrance and is not a refill for a waterless cold-air machine. SOSA reed diffusers are alcohol-free and phthalate-free, with 50ml lasting about 6-8 weeks and 130ml about 14-18 weeks. Cold-air refill oil for the Vaayu is not currently sold separately - the machine ships with 400ml included and further refills should be confirmed with SOSA. Warranty, annual maintenance, installation and bulk terms are not published and should be confirmed before ordering. Ambient scent is an interior and hospitality decision: it makes no clinical, therapeutic or wellbeing claim, it works alongside proper ventilation, cleaning and infection control and is never a substitute for any of them, it is never used to mask another smell, and no claim is made that fragrance influences a patient's decision or any commercial outcome. Clinical areas including procedure, post-procedure and photography rooms are left unscented, and the treating clinician's judgement overrides any scenting plan in their own room. The hotel-inspired scents are SOSA's own original interpretations; SOSA is an independent brand and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any hotel named for reference.
