The word in your question is the right one, so start there rather than at a product. Control is not one thing, it is two - what the machine does on its own once it has been set, and who can change that from where. SOSA publishes a great deal about the first and nothing at all about the second, and separating them before you buy is most of the work. The alternative, a passive bottle, has no controls whatsoever, which is either its weakness or the entire point depending on the house.
The reason this suits a house used in bursts. SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999 - control by Bluetooth app and onboard buttons, run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours, chosen days, adjustable intensity, auto-stop and a key-lock, all running under 38 dB. The schedule is published in detail. No app name, no connection range and no phone platform are published, so the settings made inside the house are the dependable ones.
Quick answers — read this first
What scenting suits a house that is occupied only a few months a year? Something with a schedule rather than something that is simply on. SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 publishes run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours, chosen days and adjustable intensity, set from a Bluetooth app or the buttons on the unit, with auto-stop and a key-lock.
Can it be controlled while he is out of the country? That is the honest gap. Control by app is published, but SOSA publishes no app name, no connection range and no phone platform, so nothing here supports the idea of driving it from another country. What is certain is the schedule set on the unit itself. Put the question to WhatsApp on +91 96192 18531 before assuming either way.
What about a reed diffuser instead? A reed diffuser from ₹749 is passive: nothing to set, nothing to switch, and it works whether or not anybody is in the building, for about 6 to 10 weeks either way. For a house standing empty that is the trade - no control at all, and nothing that needs anybody present.
The short answer
Short answer: Buy the schedule, not just the machine. SOSA Vaayu is Rs 11,999 with run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours, chosen days, adjustable intensity, auto-stop and a key-lock. What is not published is any app name, connection range or phone platform, so operating it from abroad is a WhatsApp question.
The pick: A SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 if somebody will be in the house to set a schedule, and reed diffusers from ₹749 for the stretches when nobody is.
Why: The published control is a schedule set on the unit, the published windows are 1, 4, 8 and 24 hours with chosen days, and a passive bottle needs nobody at all.
A gift cannot change how somebody's week went, and a page that suggests otherwise is not worth reading. What a small parcel does is tell a person you were thinking about them on a day when nothing made you - which is a real thing to say, and worth saying. Keep it small, because a large one asks somebody already short of energy to produce a reaction, and send the words separately, because the object cannot carry them.
My brother lives abroad and his house here is empty most of the year. What scenting can he actually control?
Separate two kinds of control before you look at any product, because they are not equally published. The first is what the machine does on its own once it has been set.SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 publishes all of that: waterless cold-air diffusion, a dry residue-free mist with no water and no heat, run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours, day scheduling, adjustable intensity, auto-stop and a key-lock, with control by Bluetooth app and onboard buttons, a 400ml refillable tank, operation under 38 dB, DC 12V / 1A at 5W, 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm and 0.9 kg, black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted, CE, RoHS and SGS marked, made in India, coverage of up to 1000 m3, stated as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected air, and four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances of 100 ml each in the box. The second kind of control is remote, and this is where the page goes quiet. There is no published app name, no connection range and no phone platform, so nothing supports the idea of changing a setting from another country. Treat the schedule set while somebody is standing in the house as the dependable one, and put the rest to WhatsApp on +91 96192 18531. The honest alternative for the empty stretches is a reed diffuser from ₹749, which has no controls at all and works whether or not anybody is in the building, about 6 to 10 weeks either way. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
There are two kinds of control here. SOSA publishes the schedule in full and publishes nothing about reaching it from abroad, and that difference decides the gift.
The short version: Vaayu at ₹11,999 for the months the house is lived in - 1, 4, 8 or 24-hour windows, chosen days, adjustable intensity, under 38 dB. Reeds from ₹749 for the months it is not.
Control, the empty months, and the months he is there
Three things decide this, and the first is a distinction the product page makes without ever spelling it out.
1
Control, split in two
What is published about setting it, and what is not published about reaching it
Everything about the schedule is published, and it is unusually detailed. Run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours, chosen days, adjustable intensity, auto-stop and a key-lock, set from a Bluetooth app or the buttons on the unit itself. That is a real specification rather than a marketing sentence, and it is the reason this machine suits a house used in bursts instead of continuously.
Nothing is published about operating it from somewhere else. There is no app name on the page, no connection range and no phone platform, so a page that told you he could change a setting from another country would be making it up. Assume the schedule is set on site by whoever is in the house, and treat anything beyond that as a question for SOSA on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531.
That is less limiting than it sounds. A house occupied for a few months does not need its scent adjusted daily from abroad. It needs a sensible schedule set on the first evening of a visit and then left alone, which is what chosen days and a run window are for. The key-lock exists for exactly the case where other people are in the building and nobody wants the settings moved.
Tip: Buy the schedule, and ask about the rest before you assume it.
2
The empty months
What each option does when there is nobody in the building
This is where the two categories genuinely differ, and neither is better in the abstract.
A reed diffuser at ₹749 to ₹849 in 50 ml and ₹1,249 to ₹1,349 in 130 ml is passive. Nothing to set, nothing to switch, no power. It works whether or not anybody is in the building, for about 6 to 10 weeks either way, which means it will have finished its work into an empty house and will need replacing before the next visit. For some houses that is exactly right, and the fact that it needs nobody is the whole argument for it.
A machine is the opposite. It does nothing at all until somebody sets it, and then it does precisely what it was set to do. For a house lived in a few months a year, the useful framing is that you are not buying scent for the empty stretches - you are buying the condition the house is in on the evenings it is used. The 400ml tank sits unused in between, and the page states its life two different ways - about 75 days in the specification data and 90 or more in the body copy - which in a part-time house depends even more heavily on scheduled hours, so ask rather than plan.
3
The months he is there
The rest of what is published, and one thing that is not
It is quiet - under 38 dB - which matters more in a house that has been silent for months than in one that is always full. It is 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm and 0.9 kg, black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted, and it is supplied with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, so there is nothing further to choose on the first evening of a visit.
Now the thing a shut-up house makes people hope for, stated plainly. Fragrance adds a scent to a space: it does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify a smell, and it does not clean the air. A house closed for months needs opening and airing, and no machine in this range is a substitute for that. The dry, residue-free mist is a statement about residue on surfaces rather than about air quality.
And the usual list of things SOSA does not publish, because a gift bought from another country deserves them up front: no installation service, no warranty period, no running-cost figure, no service interval and no guidance on what a second machine would add. Coverage is up to 1000 m3, about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft, and it assumes one connected body of air rather than a total floor area.
Tip: Buy for the evenings the house is used, not for the months it stands shut.
Read the number strictly, not generously
About 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft - of air that is actually connected
Vaayu publishes a coverage figure, which almost nothing in home fragrance does: up to 1000 m3, stated as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. The caveat matters more than the number. A rating assumes one connected body of air. A ground floor that runs living into dining into a stairwell is one volume and is exactly what the figure describes. A bungalow of the same total area with six closed doors is not one volume, it is six rooms, and the figure does not transfer. Work out how much of the house is genuinely open before you work out anything else - and note that no guidance is published on what a second unit adds.
Four steps, and the second one is a message rather than a purchase.
Decide who will be standing in the house when the schedule gets set.
Ask SOSA on WhatsApp what can be changed once he has left the country.
Vaayu at Rs 11,999 for the lived-in months, with 1 to 24-hour windows.
Reeds from Rs 749 when nobody is there and nothing should need setting.
The SOSA principle
A house used for part of the year does not have a fragrance problem, it has a control problem, and the two categories answer it from opposite ends. One does nothing until a person sets it and then does exactly that. The other can never be set at all, which is precisely why it works when nobody is there.
Deciding which of those two you want is the whole purchase, and it is a question about who will be in the building rather than about how large the building is.
Which four-scent set, and what it runs on
There are three published four-scent sets and all of them are ₹11,999, so the choice is about taste rather than budget. They pair Ritz-Carlton with Westin, St. Regis and 1 Hotels inspirations; Westin with Shangri-La, Four Seasons and Ritz-Carlton; and St. Regis with W Hotels, 1 Hotels and Four Seasons. These are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations, composed by SOSA, and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. For somebody who spends most of the year in another country and opens this house a few times, the hotel register is an odd fit in one direction and an obvious one in the other, and four 100 ml bottles let him settle that himself across two or three visits rather than on the first evening. If none of the four suits, the waterless nebuliser refills are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm, and the machine takes alcohol-free, water-free oils made for cold-air diffusion.
The SOSA gift edit
Four options for a house used a few months a year
The option
Who it suits, and where it fails
SOSA Vaayu · ₹11,999
Set once and it does exactly what it was set to do: run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours, chosen days, adjustable intensity, auto-stop and a key-lock, under 38 dB, four 100 ml fragrances in the box. It fails if nobody will ever be in the house to set it, and nothing is published about changing settings from another country.
A single reed diffuser · ₹749 to ₹1,349
Passive, no power, nothing to operate, about 6 to 10 weeks. It is the only option that asks nothing of anybody, which is why it suits a building nobody is in. It fails as a plan, because it works through the empty stretches too and will need replacing rather than pausing before the next visit.
A reed duo set · ₹1,498 to ₹2,598
Two bottles in one box for two rooms, and it looks like an occasion when it is handed over. Only three pairings exist, none composed to order, and both bottles in a set are the same size. It fails in a large connected volume, where a passive bottle reaches the area immediately around it and no further.
An ultrasonic machine · ₹899 to ₹5,999
Boond, Sukoon and Megh are water-based and suit one closed room. They need water and regular refilling, which is a repeated job for whoever is in the house. In a property that stands empty most of the year that job has nobody to do it, which is the clearest reason this shelf is the wrong one here.
The two details that matter in a finished house
Under 38 dB, and it runs only when you tell it to
Two published details decide whether this belongs in a house somebody spent years on. It runs under 38 dB, which is the answer to the reasonable worry about a machine humming in a double-height living room. And it is scheduled: Bluetooth app plus onboard buttons, run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours, chosen days and adjustable intensity, with auto-stop and a key-lock. That is what makes it workable in a house occupied for part of the year, or a room used only when people come over. It is 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm and 0.9 kg, black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted, and it ships with four 100 ml fragrances - so it is complete on the day it arrives.
Two more from the range, for completeness, because a house split between two countries raises both. SOSA Meenar at ₹38,500 is published for 12,000 to 18,000 sq ft and is commercial equipment for a hotel, a showroom or a corporate floor. For a house it is not the ambitious answer, it is the wrong one, and the catalogue holds nothing between the two. SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 is the cordless portable one and is a genuinely different proposition: it travels with a person to a car or a hotel room rather than scenting a property, and it is imported rather than made in India, so it answers the question of what he carries rather than the question of what the house is like when he opens it. Attars from ₹379 are worn rather than placed, and a candle from ₹399 needs a flame and somebody to light it, which is simply what the format is; no burn-hour figure is published for it.
₹11,999. Up to 1000 m3, stated as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected volume. A 400ml tank, Bluetooth app plus onboard buttons, 1h/4h/8h/24h run windows and adjustable intensity. Under 38 dB.
165 x 80.5 x 215 mm and 0.9 kg, in black or white, freestanding on a surface or wall and HVAC mounted. DC 12V / 1A at 5W, with auto-stop and a key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS marks.
Every Vaayu ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, in one of three published four-scent sets. So it is complete on arrival, which matters more for a gift than it sounds.
four x 100 ml included
The number this whole decision turns on, and where it stops being true
Up to 1000 m3 - about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft - of connected air
SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 publishes a coverage figure, which almost nothing else in home fragrance does: up to 1000 m3, stated on the product page as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. It is a waterless cold-air machine producing a dry, residue-free mist with no water and no heat, running under 38 dB on DC 12V / 1A at 5W, with a 400ml refillable tank, Bluetooth app and onboard button control, run windows of 1h, 4h, 8h or 24h, day scheduling and adjustable intensity, plus auto-stop and a key-lock. It is 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm and 0.9 kg, in black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted, CE, RoHS and SGS marked, and its country of origin is India. But a coverage rating assumes one connected body of air. That figure describes an open-plan living-dining floor, a duplex's main level, a double-height hall - the kind of volume a small passive bottle cannot reach. It does not describe a bungalow with every internal door closed, because that is not one volume; it is six. Above about 3,000 sq ft of genuinely connected space, or across separated wings, the honest answer is a conversation rather than a number, because no multi-unit guidance is published. SOSA Meenar at ₹38,500 is published for 12,000 to 18,000 sq ft and is a commercial machine rather than a house gift.
Tell SOSA who it is for, roughly how big the room is, whether their home is already scented and what you want to spend - and you will be told which size and which scent, including the times the honest answer is the 50ml rather than the 130ml.
You are not buying scent for the months the house is empty. You are buying the condition it is in on the evenings somebody is actually in it.
— Sonal Sahani, SOSA
The SOSA gifting range
Two questions settle almost every reed diffuser gift, and the first one is not price. How big is the room it is going into? A 50ml suits a bedroom, a study, a hallway or a first diffuser; a 130ml suits an open-plan living and dining area, and it is genuinely too much for a small closed bedroom. Then: how much do you actually know about their taste? The less you know, the less declarative the scent should be - Morning Freshness is the safest of the five for a home you have never stood in, and Fresh Brew coffee-vanilla is the strongest opinion in the range. Price follows those two answers rather than leading them.
The SOSA range, sorted by how much air it is meant to handle
Up to 1000 m3, stated as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected volume - a 400ml tank, Bluetooth app and onboard buttons, 1h/4h/8h/24h scheduling, adjustable intensity, under 38 dB
Worn on the body rather than placed in a room - the right answer when the gift is about the person and not the house
from ₹379
A coverage rating assumes one connected body of air. Vaayu's figure describes an open-plan volume - a living-dining floor, a duplex's main level, a double-height hall. A house with every internal door shut is not one volume, and the figure does not transfer to it. Every Vaayu ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, and its country of origin is India. Fragrance adds a scent to a space; it does not remove, neutralise or purify one, and the dry residue-free mist is a statement about residue rather than about air quality. SOSA blends described as hotel-inspired are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. Prices above are published retail prices; bulk orders are welcome and quantities are settled on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531. SOSA is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
The honest spec sheet
What the Vaayu page publishes, and what it does not
Everything below is on the live product page. Anything not on this list is not something a page like this should state.
The machine - waterless cold-air diffusion, dry and residue-free, no water and no heat. 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm, 0.9 kg, black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted. DC 12V / 1A, 5W. Under 38 dB. Auto-stop and key-lock. CE, RoHS and SGS. Country of origin India.
Control - a 400ml refillable tank, Bluetooth app plus onboard buttons, run windows of 1h, 4h, 8h or 24h, day scheduling and adjustable intensity. This is what makes it workable in a house that is empty for stretches, or a room used only at weekends.
In the box - every Vaayu ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, in one of three published four-scent sets, all at ₹11,999. SOSA blends described as hotel-inspired are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand.
The fragrance - alcohol-free, water-free oils formulated for cold-air diffusion. SOSA waterless nebuliser refills are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm and are published for Vaayu and Safar. The water-based ultrasonic bottles belong to a different kind of machine.
Not published, and therefore never stated here: how long a 400ml fill lasts as a single figure - the page says about 75 days in one place and 90 or more in another; what a second unit adds; any warranty period, service interval or filter; any installation service; any app name, phone compatibility or Bluetooth range; and any running or electricity cost. Those go to WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
Not sure whether the house needs a machine or a bottle? Tell SOSA on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 four things: roughly how much of the ground floor is one connected open volume, whether the internal doors stay open or shut, how often the house is actually occupied, and what you want to spend. You will get one straight answer rather than a catalogue - including the times the honest answer is a reed diffuser from ₹749 or a duo set from ₹1,498 rather than a machine. What is not on this page, because SOSA does not publish it: what a second unit adds, any warranty period, any installation service, any running or electricity cost, and any app or Bluetooth compatibility detail. One thing to check before you buy: the Vaayu page states the life of a 400ml fill two different ways - about 75 days in one place and 90 or more in another - and it depends on intensity and scheduled hours in any case, so ask rather than plan around a number. Every Vaayu ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each; SOSA waterless nebuliser refills are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm. Bulk orders are welcome and custom label or logo on product is available; quantities and anything commercial are settled on WhatsApp rather than priced on a page. Bespoke composition, a fragrance composed for you by Sonal, is a real SOSA service and is also discussed there. Where SOSA is: an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, sending orders across India, with no shop, stockist, counter or warehouse in any other city.

A note from Sonal
The messages I find hardest to answer are the ones that begin with an apology. They have just finished building the house. I don't want to sound cheap, but I also can't buy them anything that matters at that scale. And underneath it is a real anxiety: that after years of drawings and delays and site visits, whatever you turn up with will look like a token.
What I would say is that the anxiety is aimed at the wrong thing. You are not competing with the house. Nobody is. The people who built it spent two years choosing between four shades of the same stone, and there is no object you can hand over that will register on that scale. Trying is how people end up buying a vase that gets moved to a spare room.
The reason I keep coming back to scent for these particular houses is unromantic. It is the last layer, and it is the only one nobody planned. An architect resolves the volume, a designer resolves the surfaces, a lighting consultant resolves the evening, and then everybody stops - because scent is not on anybody's drawing. So it is one of the few things left that adds to a finished house without arguing with a single decision already made in it.
The part I would be careful about is the number. Vaayu publishes a coverage figure, which almost nothing in home fragrance does, and I would rather you read it strictly than generously. About 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft, of air that is actually connected. A ground floor that opens living into dining into a stairwell is that. A bungalow with six closed doors is not that, whatever its total square footage says on paper, and a page that blurs the two is doing you no favours.
Frequently asked questions
How much control does SOSA Vaayu actually give?
Published control is a Bluetooth app plus the buttons on the unit, with run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours, day scheduling and adjustable intensity, and there is auto-stop and a key-lock. What is not published is the app name, the connection range or which phones it pairs with, so treat the schedule set in the house as the dependable one and ask SOSA on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 about anything beyond it.
Should he leave it running while the house is empty?
Nothing is published that settles it either way, and it is less a fragrance question than a household one. The run windows are 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours with chosen days, so the machine is built to run on a schedule rather than continuously, and the 400ml tank has a life stated two different ways on the page - about 75 days in the specification data and 90 or more in the body copy. Ask SOSA on WhatsApp rather than working from one number.
Would a reed diffuser be the better gift here?
Often, yes. A reed diffuser is Rs 749 to Rs 849 in 50 ml and Rs 1,249 to Rs 1,349 in 130 ml, and it is passive: there is nothing to set and nothing to switch, and it works whether or not anybody is in the building, for about 6 to 10 weeks either way. A duo set of two bottles is Rs 1,498 to Rs 2,598. The trade is that it cannot be scheduled, paused or adjusted at all.
What comes in the box?
It comes with fragrance. Every Vaayu is supplied with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances of 100 ml each, in one of three published four-scent sets, all at Rs 11,999. Afterwards the SOSA waterless nebuliser refills are Rs 1,049 for 100 gm and Rs 1,849 for 300 gm, and the machine takes alcohol-free, water-free oils made for cold-air diffusion.
Will it deal with the smell of a house that has been shut for months?
No. Fragrance adds a scent to a space: it does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify a smell, and it does not clean the air. A house closed up for months needs opening and airing, and no machine in the SOSA range is a substitute for that. The dry, residue-free mist is a statement about residue on surfaces rather than about air quality.
Take the next step

About the coverage figure: a rating assumes one connected body of air. The published figure describes an open-plan volume such as a living-dining floor, a duplex's main level or a double-height hall, and does not describe a property whose rooms are separated by closed doors, whatever its total floor area. No guidance is published on what a second unit adds. About tank life: the Vaayu product page states the life of one 400 ml fill in two different ways - approximately 75 days in its specification and FAQ data, and 90 or more days in its body copy - and in either case it depends on the intensity setting and the scheduled hours, so no single figure is stated on this page. What is not published, and is therefore not stated here: any warranty period, service interval or filter; any installation service; any app name, phone compatibility or Bluetooth range; any running or electricity cost; and any multi-unit coverage. Limits of this guide: fragrance adds a scent to a space. It does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify odour, it does not clean the air, and no SOSA product makes any health, antibacterial or air-purifying claim; a dry residue-free mist is a statement about residue and not about air quality. No claim is made anywhere on this page about mood, stress, calm, sleep or wellbeing, nor about how any recipient or guest will feel, nor about what a gift does for any business result. No page here characterises any recipient's wealth or describes people who own particular kinds of property; where a property value appears it is the figure the reader themselves supplied as context. SOSA blends described as hotel-inspired are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. SOSA Home & Body is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, Maharashtra, sending orders across India, with no shop, showroom, stockist, counter or warehouse in any other city.
