Founder Diaries · Car Perfumes, Parking & How a Car Is Actually Used

There is a real thing behind this question and it is worth naming before the shopping starts. What you are after is not intensity, it is association - you want a particular scent to become what this car smells like, so that opening the door six months from now returns you to the week you bought it. Association is built by repetition of the same thing, not by volume. And the second half of the question is the one nobody can answer with a number: SOSA publishes no cabin-volume figure and no coverage figure, for a compact hatchback or for anything else, so the honest method is not to scale a dose to a space. It is to start at the smallest amount the product is built to give and let the car tell you whether that was enough.
A new car is the one moment when you get to choose what it smells of from the beginning, and the temptation is to make the choice loudly. SOSA publishes no cabin-volume or coverage figure, so nobody can tell you how much a compact interior takes. What is published is this: the spray is a fine-mist atomizer and one spray covers the cabin, a 10ml holds 100 sprays, and the 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks with a stopper that tightens for subtler. Start at the bottom of both and work up.
Quick answers — read this first
How much car perfume does a compact cabin need? There is no published number, and anybody offering one is inventing it. SOSA publishes no cabin-volume, coverage or scent-throw figure. What it does publish is that the spray is a fine-mist atomizer and one spray covers the cabin, and that a 10ml holds 100 sprays. So the starting dose is one, and the way you find out whether it is right is by driving with it.
Should a new car get a spray or a hanging? Both are the same price for the same scent, so it is not a budget question. The spray puts you in charge of every dose - 100 sprays in a 10ml, 3 months and above at one a day. The hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks continuously and has the one published intensity control in the range: a stopper you tighten for subtler or loosen for stronger. For a new interior, that stopper is the easier way to start quietly.
Does a new electric hatchback change the approach? No. SOSA publishes no electric, petrol or diesel product and no powertrain claim. A new car changes three things that genuinely matter - the upholstery is new, the parking is probably new, and the habits are not formed yet - and none of those is propulsion. Start low and repeat one scent, whatever the car runs on.
The short answer
Short answer: Build the association with repetition rather than strength. A SOSA 10ml car perfume spray is Rs 449 to Rs 549 and holds 100 sprays, and one spray covers the cabin, so start with one as you get in. The 12ml hanging is the same price, runs 4 to 6 weeks and its stopper tightens for subtler. SOSA publishes no cabin-volume or coverage figure for any car.
Why: A scent identity comes from the same thing happening every day, and starting at the smallest published dose leaves you somewhere to go if it turns out to be too little.
A car spends most of its life empty. The hours that matter are the ones somebody is sitting in it, and on a typical commute that is one or two out of twenty-four. The useful decision is therefore not which product lasts longest while nobody is there - it is whether you want fragrance you switch on or fragrance that simply runs. A 10ml spray is published at 100 sprays, which is three months at one a day and fifty days at two; a 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks and its stopper loosens for more or tightens for less. Nothing here depends on what is under the bonnet.
I bought my first electric hatchback and want the cabin to develop a fragrance identity that I associate with the new car - how should I introduce perfume without overwhelming a compact new interior?
Start at one dose, keep one scent, and change nothing for a fortnight. That is not caution for its own sake - it is the only method available, because SOSA publishes no cabin-volume figure and no coverage figure for a hatchback or for any other car, so there is no space-to-dose ratio to work from and anybody quoting you one has made it up. What is published is narrower and more useful. The spray is a fine-mist atomizer and one spray covers the cabin, and a 10ml holds 100 sprays, which the pages set out as 3 months and above at one spray a day, or 50 days at two a day. So one spray as you get in is both the smallest dose the product is designed to give and the rate that makes the bottle last longest. If after two weeks the car is quieter than you want, the next step is a second spray on the way home rather than two at once - and the bottle will show you the cost of that choice, because a two-a-day habit is 50 days rather than three months. The other route is the 12ml hanging, the same price for the same scent, 4 to 6 weeks of continuous diffusion in refillable glass, and it is the format with a published intensity control: tighten the stopper for subtler, loosen it for stronger. For a new interior that dial is the gentlest way in. Two honest notes. The car being electric has no bearing on any of this: SOSA makes no powertrain-specific product and publishes no powertrain claim. And a new car already smells of itself - fragrance adds a scent on top of that; it does not remove one, so think of what you choose as joining the interior rather than replacing it. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Identity is repetition, not volume. One scent, one dose, every day, for a fortnight before you change anything.
The short version for a new car: one scent, kept, is what builds an association - not a strong one. A 10ml spray from ₹449 is 100 sprays, so one spray a day is the published 3 months and above. The 12ml hanging is the same price and its stopper tightens for subtler, which is the only intensity control SOSA publishes.
Three things to get right in the first month, and none is about strength
New-car fragrance goes wrong in a predictable way: the first week is enthusiastic, the third week is invisible to the driver, and the bottle is empty in a month. Three decisions prevent it, and the first one is the hardest to make in a shop.
01
Start at one
One spray is the published dose, so one spray is the experiment
SOSA publishes that the spray is a fine-mist atomizer and that one spray covers the cabin. That is the whole of what is published about dose, and it is more useful than it looks, because it tells you the product was designed around a single press rather than a burst. So the first fortnight is one spray as you get in, and nothing else. Not one on each seat, not a second when you collect somebody. If that turns out to be too little, you will know, and adding is easy. Starting high leaves you nowhere to go except stopping altogether, and it is also the fastest way to find out what a hundred doses looks like when you are using four of them a day.
Tip: You can always add. Starting loud removes the option.
02
There is no number
No cabin-volume or coverage figure is published, for any car
This is the part the question deserves an honest answer on. SOSA publishes no cabin-volume figure, no coverage figure, no scent-throw distance and no projection radius - not for a hatchback, not for a saloon, not for anything. So the word compact cannot be turned into a dose, and any page that turns it into one is inventing the conversion. What replaces it is unglamorous and it works: the published single-spray dose, your own two weeks of driving, and the count on the bottle. The 10ml is 100 sprays, so the difference between one a day and two a day is the difference between 3 months and above and 50 days - which is the clearest feedback any fragrance gives you.
03
One scent, kept
Association is built by repetition, which means not rotating
The thing you actually want - a smell that means this car - is made by the same scent being there again and again, and it is undone by variety. So the decision that matters most is choosing one and staying with it, which argues for finding the right one before the car is committed to it. The Car Perfume Sprays Discovery Set exists for exactly that: nine published combinations from ₹699, or all nine sprays at ₹2,999. They are fixed combinations, chosen from the published list rather than assembled, so read the nine and pick the one whose three you would genuinely live with. Then commit the car to one of them.
Tip: Rotating scents is how a car ends up smelling of nothing in particular.
The one number that settles most of this
A 10ml spray is 100 sprays. The rest is division.
SOSA publishes the count on the bottle: a 10ml spray is 100 sprays, and the 50ml is 500 sprays and about a year and more. The pages state the working too - three months and above at one spray a day, and fifty days at two a day. That turns a vague question into an arithmetic one. Spray before every journey and somebody making four short trips a day is out of a 10ml in about twenty-five days; the same bottle in the hands of somebody who sprays once each morning lasts the published three months. Neither is wrong - but only one of them is what the person expected when they bought it. Work out your own number before you decide the product is not lasting, because a hundred sprays is a hundred sprays regardless of how the car is powered.
How to introduce a scent to a new car, in four moves
Pick one scent and commit the car to it. Rotating is how you end up with none.
Give it one spray as you get in. One. For the first two weeks.
Change nothing for a fortnight, then ask a passenger before you ask yourself.
Only then adjust, and check the new rate against 100 sprays in the bottle.
The SOSA principle
A car's scent identity is made in the third month, not the first week. The only thing that gets you there is the same small dose, repeated, of one scent you chose properly.
And since spray and hanging cost the same for the same scent, nothing about that plan is decided by budget.
Choosing the scent the car is going to be, and in which format
Since format does not change the price, pick the scent on its own merits. The gentlest way into a new interior is the softer end: Jasmine at ₹449 and Lavender at ₹479, which the pages publish as the softest in the range. Sandalwood at ₹479 sits deeper without being heavy, and Vetiver at ₹509 and Oud at ₹509 are the deep end, Oud deepest of all. The bright group is Icy Mint at ₹489, Lemon at ₹499 and Sea Breeze at ₹509. Note before you fall for it that Mysore Orange Blossom at ₹549 is spray only, with no hanging and no refill.
The SOSA gift edit
Four ways to start a new car off, and what each one costs you
The option
Who it suits, and where it fails
One spray as you get in, 10ml from ₹449
The smallest published dose, repeated daily: 100 sprays, 3 months and above at one a day. It fails only if you are impatient, because the association takes weeks and the first fortnight feels understated.
A hanging with the stopper tightened
Same price, 4 to 6 weeks per 12ml bottle, and the stopper is the one published intensity control - tighten for subtler. It fails if you want the car quiet on some journeys, because it is always running.
The Discovery Set, from ₹699
Nine published combinations, so you try three before committing the car to one. It fails as a daily routine: rotating three scents is the opposite of building an association, so it is a first month, not a habit.
Two sprays on day one to set the tone
The common instinct and the expensive one. It does not build the association faster, it uses the bottle at 50 days rather than three months, and it leaves nowhere to go if the cabin is still quieter than you wanted.
The format choice, and why price does not decide it
Spray or hanging - the same price, scent for scent
This is the unusual part of the SOSA car range and it makes the decision cleaner than it usually is: the spray and the hanging cost the same for any given scent - ₹449 for Jasmine, ₹479 for Lavender and Sandalwood, ₹489 for Icy Mint, ₹499 for Lemon, ₹509 for Oud, Vetiver and Sea Breeze. So you are not trading money against convenience; you are choosing between fragrance you decide to have and fragrance that is simply there. The spray is 100 sprays in 10ml and you control every one of them. The hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks in refillable glass and asks nothing of you, and its stopper is the strength control - loosen for stronger, tighten for subtler. One further practical difference that decides it for some people: 15ml refills exist for the hanging and there is no spray refill at all.
Two practical facts to know before the first purchase rather than after it. 15ml refills exist for the hanging only, ₹399 to ₹449 across eight scents in a refillable glass bottle, and there is no spray refill, so a spray is replaced rather than topped up. Everything is alcohol-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free and IFRA-compliant and formulated for 45 degrees C heat and 85 per cent humidity, which describes how the formula is built and not how it performs in one season over another. If this is a gift for somebody who has just taken delivery of a car, custom label or logo on product is the one branding option, and there is no box or sleeve service behind it.
₹449 to ₹549, published at 100 sprays. Fragrance you decide to have, journey by journey - which is the format that suits a car occupied an hour or two a day.
The same price as the spray, published at 4 to 6 weeks in a refillable glass bottle. The stopper adjusts it - loosen for stronger, tighten for subtler - which is the only strength control SOSA publishes.
Three sprays from ₹699, or all nine at ₹2,999. Nine published combinations and those nine are the whole range - you pick from them, you do not assemble one.
from ₹699
The premise worth rejecting before anything else
A fragrance does not know what is turning the wheels.
There is no petrol product, no diesel product and no electric product in the SOSA range, and SOSA publishes nothing whatsoever about powertrain - because a perfume in a closed cabin behaves the same way whether that cabin is being pushed along by a battery or an engine. What genuinely differs between two owners is everything else: where the car is parked and for how long, how many separate journeys it makes in a day, how many of those hours anybody is actually inside it, whether the windows are open, and who else is in the car. Those are real variables and they change the answer completely. The published figures speak to them directly: a 10ml spray is 100 sprays, which is three months and more at one a day and fifty days at two; a 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks continuously with a stopper that loosens for more and tightens for less; the 50ml is 500 sprays and about a year and more. So when two people with identical cars need different answers, it is never because one of them is electric.
Tell SOSA how many hours a day somebody is actually sitting in the car, where it is parked and for how long, whether the windows are usually open or shut, and who else drives it - and you will be told which format and how much, including the times the honest answer is the hanging at the same price because you would rather not think about it.
Nobody can tell you how much a small cabin takes, because nobody publishes that number. Start at one dose, repeat it, and let the car answer.
— Sonal Sahani, SOSA
The SOSA gifting range
Two questions settle almost every car fragrance decision, and neither of them is what the car runs on. How many hours a day is somebody actually sitting in it? A 25 km commute is about an hour; a field job can be four. That number decides how much of what you buy is experienced by anybody at all, because the rest of the day is a sealed cabin in a parking bay. Then: do you want fragrance you switch on, or fragrance that simply runs? The 10ml spray holds 100 sprays and does nothing until you press it; the 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks whether anybody is there or not, and its stopper loosens for stronger or tightens for subtler. They cost the same for the same scent, so price does not decide it - which is unusual, and useful.
The SOSA range, sorted by how much it asks of the person receiving it
Start from what the gift demands, not from what it costs
₹449 to ₹549 across nine scents. Published at 100 sprays - 3 months and above at one a day, 50 days at two a day. A fine-mist atomizer; one spray covers the cabin
The same price as the spray, scent for scent. Published at 4 to 6 weeks of continuous diffusion in a refillable glass bottle, and the stopper adjusts it - loosen for stronger, tighten for subtler
₹1,499, published at 500 sprays and about a year and more. The honest size when you already know the routine, and the wrong one while you are still working it out
₹899 for Jasmine & Lemon or Jasmine & Lavender; ₹949 for Oud + Lemon or Sandalwood & Oud. Spray combo (2 x 10ml) or hanging combo (2 x 12ml) at the same price. Four published pairs
₹399 to ₹449 across eight scents. There is no spray refill, and Orange Blossom has no refill at all - so if refilling matters, that decides the format for you
₹3,999, or ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired sets. A different category from a spray or a hanging, and listed here so you can rule it in or out rather than wonder
from ₹3,999
The fact that answers most of these questions is a division sum. A 10ml spray is published at 100 sprays. Somebody who sprays before each of four short daily trips empties it in about twenty-five days; somebody who sprays once a day gets the published three months and more. The 50ml is 500 sprays and about a year and more. The 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks instead, continuously, and its stopper adjusts the strength - loosen for more, tighten for less. Spray and hanging are the same price scent for scent, so the choice is genuinely about how you want to use the car rather than what you want to spend. Everything is alcohol-free, phthalate-free and IFRA-compliant, formulated for 45 degrees C heat and 85 per cent humidity, made in India. Fragrance adds a scent to a cabin; it does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify an odour and it does not clean the air - so a car that has developed a smell is a question about the car, not about the perfume. Prices above are published retail prices; bulk orders are welcome and custom label or logo on product is available, with quantities settled on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531. SOSA is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, sending orders across India. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
The honest spec sheet
What the SOSA car pages publish, and what they do not
Everything below is on the live product pages. Anything not on this list is not something a page like this should state.
The published quantities - a 10ml spray is 100 sprays, stated as 3 months and above at one a day and 50 days at two a day. The 50ml is 500 sprays and about a year and more, at ₹1,499. A spray combo is 200 sprays, stated as 100 days at two a day rotating. These are the only usage figures SOSA gives.
The hanging - 4 to 6 weeks (28 to 42 days) of continuous diffusion per 12ml bottle, in refillable glass, and the stopper adjusts the strength: loosen for stronger, tighten for subtler.
Combos and the Discovery Set - four published pairs at ₹899 and ₹949, as a spray combo (2 x 10ml) or a hanging combo (2 x 12ml) at the same price. The Discovery Set is ₹699 to ₹899 for three sprays and ₹2,999 for all nine. Those nine combinations are the entire set range and none is composed to order.
Refills - 15ml hanging refills at ₹399 to ₹449 across eight scents. There is no spray refill and Orange Blossom has no refill.
The formulation - alcohol-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free and IFRA-compliant, formulated for 45 degrees C heat and 85 per cent relative humidity, made in India.

A note from Sonal
We get asked which car perfume is right for an electric car, and I have never been able to give the answer the question wants. There isn't one. A fragrance sits in a closed box of air with a person in it, and that box does not behave differently because the thing moving it is a battery. If anyone tells you otherwise they are selling you a category, not a product.
What I can tell you is what actually changes between two owners, because it is not subtle. One car is occupied ninety minutes a day and another is occupied six. One sits in a basement and one bakes outdoors for nine hours. One has the windows down for the first ten minutes of every drive and one never opens them at all. One is driven by three people who want three different things from it. Those differences are enormous, and none of them is on the spec sheet of the car.
So the numbers I would want you to hold on to are the ones about use rather than about chemistry. A 10ml spray is a hundred sprays. That is three months if you spray once a day and about fifty days if you spray twice, and if you spray before every one of four short errands it is gone in under a month. The hanging runs four to six weeks and you can loosen or tighten the stopper to change it. Those two facts settle more of these questions than anything I could tell you about the car.
And the part I will not pretend about: a perfume cannot fix a smell. It adds a scent, it does not remove one. If a car has started smelling of something it did not smell of before, that is a question about the car - the air-conditioning, the mats, something in the boot, water that got in during the monsoon - and adding fragrance on top of it is the one thing I would ask you not to do.
Frequently asked questions
How much should I spray in a compact hatchback?
Start with one. SOSA publishes that the spray is a fine-mist atomizer and that one spray covers the cabin, and it publishes no cabin-volume, coverage or scent-throw figure for any car, so there is no space-based dose to calculate. Drive with one spray for two weeks before you change anything, and check your rate against the published 100 sprays in a 10ml.
Does a new electric car need a lighter fragrance than a petrol one?
No. SOSA publishes no petrol, diesel or electric product and no claim that fragrance behaves differently by powertrain. What is genuinely new about a new car is the upholstery, the parking place and the fact that no habits have formed yet, and those are the things worth adjusting to.
Why does the car stop smelling of it after a few weeks?
Ask a passenger rather than trusting your own impression, because the person who gets in once is the better instrument than the person who is in it twice a day. The other signal is measurable: if the bottle is going down faster than you expected, your rate has crept up without your deciding it. A 10ml is 100 sprays, so counting backwards from what is left tells you what your habit actually is.
Is the hanging or the spray better for a new car?
They cost the same for the same scent, so choose on behaviour. The hanging is the only one with a published intensity control, a stopper that tightens for subtler and loosens for stronger, and it runs 4 to 6 weeks continuously in a refillable glass bottle. The spray gives you the decision each time, 100 sprays in a 10ml. For a new interior the tightened stopper is the quietest way to begin.
Can I make up my own set of three scents to try first?
No. The Car Perfume Sprays Discovery Set publishes nine fixed combinations, eight trios from Rs 699 to Rs 899 and all nine sprays at Rs 2,999. You pick from that published list rather than composing one, which is the same rule across every SOSA set.
Take the next step
Start low, stay with one scent, and let repetition do the work
A 10ml spray from ₹449 gives you 100 sprays and complete control of when the cabin gets any at all - one as you get in, and nothing more on the same journey. The 12ml hanging at the same price is the option with a published control built in: tighten the stopper for subtler, loosen it if you later want more. The Discovery Set publishes nine fixed combinations from ₹699 if you want to find the scent before you commit the car to it. Tell SOSA which direction you are drawn to and how long you are in the car each day.
Not sure which one suits the person you are buying for? Send SOSA their age, whether they drive, whether they like their home scented and your budget on WhatsApp, and you will get an honest answer - including when the cheaper product is the better gift.

What is not published, and is therefore not stated here: any difference in fragrance behaviour between petrol, diesel and electric vehicles - SOSA makes no powertrain-specific product and no powertrain claim; any cabin-volume, coverage, scent-throw, projection or evaporation figure; any claim about how a scent is perceived over hours or about sensory adaptation; any seasonal performance claim beyond the stated formulation for heat and humidity; any shelf life, expiry or concentration; and any bulk rate, minimum quantity, price break or lead time. Limits of this guide: fragrance adds a scent to a cabin. It does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify an odour, it does not clean the air, and a car that has developed a new smell is a question about the vehicle rather than about perfume. No health claim is made anywhere on this page, in either direction - nothing here states or implies that any fragrance causes or prevents a headache, nausea, motion sickness or any other effect, and nothing is said about safety in pregnancy or for children or the elderly, because SOSA publishes no information this page can rely on. No third-party brand is named and no competitor or category of competing product is characterised. No rating, review count, strength percentage or customer name from any product page is cited. Bulk orders are welcome and custom label or logo on product is available; that is the only branding option, and quantities are settled on WhatsApp. SOSA Home & Body is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, Maharashtra, sending orders across India, with no shop, showroom, stockist, counter or warehouse in any other city. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live product pages.
