The consultation area is the one part of a kitchen showroom where somebody sits still for an hour and a half. That single fact answers the fragrance question, the strength question and the placement question at once - and two of those three answers are that you should do nothing there at all.
Quick answers — read this first
What is the best fragrance for a luxury kitchen consultation area? The same one the rest of the showroom has - dry and material-led, in the register of dry woods, something green or herbal, a dry tea or a clean mineral note. Nothing edible, nothing sweet, nothing floral or spa-like. The consultation area does not get a fragrance choice of its own, because it opens onto the display floor and shares its air, and because a second character at the table is a second thing your customer has to negotiate while doing arithmetic on a ₹7 lakh kitchen.

So what do I put at the table? Nothing. No diffuser on the desk, no reed on the sample cabinet, no unit under the table. The consultation area inherits the showroom, quietly, at the far end of the gradient - and that is the whole design. A source within a couple of metres of a seated person is the worst-placed machine in the building, because they cannot move away from it and they will be there for ninety minutes.

Then what does the consultation area actually decide? The level for the entire showroom. It is the longest dwell in the building, so the setting is judged from that seat at minute ninety, not from the aisle on arrival. On hardware: one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 on the display floor, run low. Total hardware spend: ₹11,999, one machine, and nothing at the table. Under about 750 sq ft, a SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899 instead.
The short answer
Short answer: the showroom's own fragrance, inherited quietly - dry and material-led, dry woods or green and herbal or clean mineral, and nothing edible. A consultation area gets no source of its own, because it shares air with the display floor and because nobody should sit two metres from a diffuser for ninety minutes. What it does get is the deciding vote on the level for the whole building. One Vaayu (₹11,999) on the floor, or a Sukoon (₹1,899) in a single-room studio.
The pick: one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) placed on the display floor's air path and set from the consultation seat, in the dry register that Mountain Breeze (₹849) describes - pine, sage and cedar, dry rather than sweet.
Next step: send the floor plan with the consultation table and the AC grilles marked, and we will tell you how far from that seat the single machine should sit - Ask for a retail scenting plan.
Scenting a luxury consultation area - the answer in five linesSame fragrance as the floor - dry, material-led, no foodNothing placed at the table. Two of these five lines are instructions to do less. That is not modesty about the product - it is what a room where somebody sits still for ninety minutes actually needs.

Straight answer
What is the best fragrance for a luxury kitchen consultation area?
The showroom's own, inherited quietly, with nothing placed at the table - and I will defend both halves of that. On register, the answer is the same one the display floor gets, because a consultation area in a modular kitchen showroom is almost never a sealed room: it is a table, a sample wall and two or three chairs sitting in an alcove off the floor, sharing the floor's air. So it takes the floor's profile, which should be dry and material-led - dry woods such as cedar, pine and sage, something green or herbal, a dry tea, a clean mineral note - and which must never be edible. Vanilla, baking, coffee and warm spice all belong to a different kind of business, and SOSA's own Fresh Brew, being coffee and vanilla, is exactly the register to avoid here. Equally, this is not the place for the spa and floral direction: a heavy floral or a sweet amber two feet from someone comparing shutter finishes is an interruption rather than an atmosphere. If you want a reference for the register in a form you can smell before committing, the dry-wood direction is what Mountain Breeze at ₹849 is built on - pine, sage and cedar, dry rather than sweet - and it is a cheap way to test a register in the actual building before you specify a machine. Now the harder half: the consultation area gets no source of its own. No diffuser on the desk, no reed on the sample cabinet, nothing tucked under the table. This is the longest dwell in your building - your customer will sit there for sixty to ninety minutes, and your designer sits there most of the working day - and a fragrance source within a couple of metres of a seated person who cannot move away is the worst-placed machine in a showroom. Exposure compounds. What feels like a considered welcome in the first two minutes is simply the air by minute forty, and by minute ninety it is either invisible or too much, and you will not be told which. So the table inherits the room at the far, quiet end of the gradient - which is what one machine on the display floor produces naturally, without you designing it. And here is the part that makes this area more important than any other: the consultation seat is where the level for the whole showroom is decided. Not the doorway, not the aisle, not the reception desk. Sit in that chair yourself for a full ninety minutes before you agree the setting is right, and then ask the designers who sit there every day, because they hold the only honest measurement in the building - your own nose adapts within twenty minutes of walking in. If the team says it is too much, it is too much. The hardware is unremarkable and that is the point: one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 on the display floor's air path, low, on a trading-hours timer, key-locked. Total hardware spend: ₹11,999, one machine, nothing at the table. The honest concession: if your studio is under about 750 sq ft and is mostly consultation, a Vaayu is the wrong buy and one SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899 placed well away from the seating is the honest answer. Two standing limits. Fragrance is never used to mask another smell, so if the sample wall of laminates is still off-gassing, ventilate rather than scent. And plainly: no one can promise you that ambient scent moves footfall, enquiries or order value, and a supplier who tells you a fragrance helps close a kitchen is selling. Ask for a retail scenting plan and send the floor plan.
Same dry, material-led profile as the floor, nothing edible, and no source at the table - the consultation area inherits the room. It is the longest dwell in the building, so it sets the level for everywhere else. ₹11,999 on the floor, ₹1,899 in a small studio.
One SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 on the display floor, not at the table - under 38dB, so nothing is audible during a ninety-minute meeting, with adjustable intensity set from the seat rather than the aisle and a key-lock so a helpful colleague cannot raise it on a quiet morning. Under 750 sq ft, buy the Sukoon and place it away from the chairs.

The machine for the floor the table sits in

There is nothing to buy for the consultation area itself, so the only decision is which machine scents the floor around it. The images link to the product pages so you can check the specifications yourself.

SOSA Sukoon
Ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering roughly 270-320 sq ft, supplied with three 15ml fragrances. In a small consultation-led studio this is the honest buy at ₹1,899, placed across the room from the chairs and run at its lowest useful setting.

The three rules for a consultation area

Two of the three tell you to leave the area alone. The third is the only piece of real work, and it is done sitting down.

1
Take the register from the building
Dry, material-led, and nothing that belongs on a menu
A consultation area is where a customer looks closely at shutter samples, stone offcuts and handle finishes, so the air's job is to stay out of the way of a tactile, visual task. That means dry rather than sweet: cedar, pine and sage, something green or herbal, a dry tea, clean mineral. It rules out the edible register completely - a room selling ₹5-10 lakh cabinetry that smells of vanilla or coffee reads as a café, and SOSA's own Fresh Brew is the clearest example of what to avoid here. It also rules out heavy florals and sweet ambers, which are far more noticeable at conversational distance than they are in an aisle.
Tip: Test the register with a ₹849 reed in the real building for a week before specifying a machine for it.

2
Put nothing at the table
Nobody should sit two metres from a fragrance source for ninety minutes
The instinct to give the best area its own touch is a good instinct in almost every other discipline and a poor one here. A seated customer cannot move away, and a designer sits in that chair every working day - so a source at close range stops being ambience and becomes something being done to them. There is also a practical problem: at that distance the level is set by whoever last walked past, and any adjustment made for the table changes the table alone rather than the room. Let the area inherit the floor at the far, quiet end of the gradient, which is what a single well-placed machine produces on its own.
Tip: If a customer can name the fragrance while seated, the whole showroom is too strong.

One Vaayu ₹11,999, set once and left alone, is the whole hardware side of this.

3
Set the level from that seat
The longest dwell in the building holds the only honest measurement
Everywhere else in the showroom is a place people pass through. The consultation table is a place people stay, which makes it the correct instrument. Sit in the customer's chair for a full ninety minutes - not a token ten - and decide the setting from there, because exposure compounds and a level chosen while walking will be too high by the end of a meeting. Then ask the designers who live in it, after a normal week rather than on the first day, and treat a hesitant yes as a no. And make sure anyone on the floor can switch it off in seconds without asking permission, because occasionally somebody will need that.

The SOSA principle
Every other area of a showroom is somewhere a customer passes through. The consultation table is the one place they stay - which is why it gets nothing of its own and why it decides the setting for everywhere else.
The room with the least done to it is the room that governs the building.
SOSA Vaayu
Quiet enough to be forgotten: Under 38dB means the machine is not part of a ninety-minute conversation about handles and hinges. ₹11,999.

The plan, seat by seat

Walk this from the far end of the display floor to the customer's chair, and note what should be happening at each step.

The SOSA plan
Scenting around a luxury kitchen consultation area
The point What to do
SOSA VaayuThe display floor, upstream
One machine, one profile, low, on a trading-hours timer. This is the only hardware in the plan and it is deliberately several metres from the chairs.
The approach to the consultation alcove
Nothing added. The gradient softens naturally as air travels, which is exactly the transition you want a customer to walk into.
The sample wall of laminates and stone
No source here either, and if the samples are new and still off-gassing, ventilate and wait rather than scenting over them.
The customer's chair
Nothing at all - and the place the whole showroom's setting is judged from, seated, at minute ninety.
The designer's side of the table
Also nothing. The designer breathes this air nine hours a day and holds the veto on the level.
SOSA VaayuThe off switch
Reachable in seconds by anyone on the floor, without asking. Occasionally somebody will need it, and that is fine.

The neighbouring question people ask straight after this one is whether the designer's own side of the table should be treated separately, and the answer is set out in whether the designer's consultation table should be scented differently from the display floor. For the intensity doctrine in full, including how to run the ninety-minute test properly, see how strong fragrance should be when customers spend 60-90 minutes choosing a kitchen. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel.

SOSA Vaayu
The register, in a form you can test first: Mountain Breeze is pine, sage and cedar - dry rather than sweet, and a ₹849 way to try the direction in your own building before specifying anything.
One machine, placed away from the chairs
SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 scents the display floor at a low setting, and the consultation table inherits it - which is the entire specification.
See the SOSA Vaayu Book a scenting plan
The best thing you can do for a luxury consultation area is refuse to give it anything. It is the only room in the building where the customer cannot walk away from your decision.

The SOSA kitchen-showroom specification

Two machines cover almost every showroom with a consultation area in it, with the Aangan taking over once the building is large enough that the air handling does the distribution. Cold-air refill oil is not currently sold separately, so the 400ml supplied runs 90+ days a fill and further supply should be confirmed with SOSA before you plan around it. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Take the register from the building rather than from the occasion, place nothing at the table, and judge the setting seated at minute ninety. Ambient scent here is a presentation decision like lighting or display styling; it is never used to mask another smell - not new laminates on the sample wall, not adhesive, not cooking - and where something is off-gassing the honest answer is ventilation and time first. And plainly: no one can promise you that ambient scent moves footfall, enquiries or order value, and a supplier who suggests a fragrance helps a designer close a kitchen is selling. Ask for a retail scenting plan before you spend anything.

A note from Sonal

People ask me for the best fragrance for their consultation area expecting a name, and what they usually get from me is a shorter answer than they wanted: whatever the showroom already has, and nothing extra. It sounds evasive until you sit in the chair. Ninety minutes is a long time to be somewhere you did not choose, doing sums about a kitchen that costs as much as a car, with a stranger who is very good at their job explaining shutter finishes to you. The kindest thing the air can do in that hour and a half is be unremarkable.

That is also why I am so firm about putting nothing at the table. In every other part of a building I am happy to talk about placement as a matter of degree - a little closer, a little further, a metre up. At the consultation seat it is absolute, because your customer cannot get up and move, and your designer is there every day of their working life. A source at conversational distance is not ambience; it is a decision being applied to somebody at close range for an hour and a half. Meanwhile the same seat is the most useful instrument you own. If the level is right there at minute ninety, it is right in the whole building, and you never have to think about the aisle at all.

So the hardware side is short. One Vaayu at ₹11,999 on the display floor from about 1,500 sq ft, several metres from the chairs and key-locked. One Sukoon at ₹1,899 if the studio is one small room, which for consultation-led studios is very often the case. If you want to try the dry register before you buy any machine at all, a Mountain Breeze reed at ₹849 in the real building for a week will tell you more than any description of mine. Nothing edible, nothing at the table, and nothing bought while the sample wall is still new. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best fragrance for a luxury kitchen consultation area?
The same dry, material-led profile the rest of the showroom uses - dry woods such as cedar, pine and sage, something green or herbal, a dry tea or a clean mineral note - inherited from the display floor rather than released at the table. Nothing edible, and nothing heavy or floral, because at conversational distance a sweet or floral note becomes something a seated customer has to negotiate rather than an atmosphere.
Should the consultation area have its own diffuser?
No. It is the longest dwell in the building, and a fragrance source within a couple of metres of someone who is seated for ninety minutes and cannot move away is the worst-placed machine in a showroom. Your designer sits there every working day as well. Let the area inherit the display floor at the quiet end of the gradient, which is what one correctly placed machine produces without any extra work.
How do I know the level is right for a long consultation?
Sit in the customer's chair for a full ninety minutes rather than walking past for ten, because exposure compounds and a setting chosen on the move is usually too high by the end of a meeting. Then ask the designers after a normal week and treat a hesitant yes as a no. You cannot judge it on your own after the first ten minutes, because your nose adapts within about twenty.
Can I use a reed diffuser on the consultation table instead of a machine?
I would not. A reed is gentler than a machine but it is still a source at close range, and the objection is the distance rather than the format. If you want to use a reed, use it to test the dry register in the building for a week before you specify anything - Mountain Breeze at Rs 849 for 50ml is a cheap way to find out whether the direction suits your displays.
Does a well-scented consultation area help close a kitchen sale?
No one can promise that and I will not. SOSA has run no research that would support it, and there is no honest way to separate ambient scent from the designer, the samples, the drawings and everything else that happens across a ninety-minute meeting. What restraint at the table genuinely buys you is a customer who is comfortable for the full hour and a half, which you can verify by sitting there yourself.

Facts verified 5 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with adjustable intensity, a 400ml refillable tank lasting 90+ days a fill depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, operation under 38dB at 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification, which are electrical and compliance marks and not medical approvals. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or equipment. The SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is an ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering roughly 270-320 sq ft and is supplied with three 15ml fragrances; the water-based Hotel Collection (₹299 / ₹999 / ₹1,799) is an ultrasonic fragrance and is not a refill for a waterless cold-air machine. SOSA reed diffusers are alcohol-free and phthalate-free, with 50ml lasting about 6-8 weeks and 130ml about 14-18 weeks. Cold-air refill oil for the Vaayu is not currently sold separately - the machine ships with 400ml included and further refills should be confirmed with SOSA. Warranty, annual maintenance, installation and bulk terms are not published and should be confirmed before ordering. Ambient scent is an interior and hospitality decision: it makes no clinical, therapeutic or wellbeing claim, it works alongside proper ventilation, cleaning and infection control and is never a substitute for any of them, it is never used to mask another smell, and no claim is made that fragrance influences a patient's decision or any commercial outcome. Clinical areas including procedure, post-procedure and photography rooms are left unscented, and the treating clinician's judgement overrides any scenting plan in their own room. The hotel-inspired scents are SOSA's own original interpretations; SOSA is an independent brand and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any hotel named for reference.
