Founder Diaries · Car Perfumes, Parking & How a Car Is Actually Used
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 10 min read Updated September 2026
The instinct is right and the stated reason is not, which is a good position to be in. A new car is a proper moment to start a fresh cabin identity - the old one attached itself to your previous hatchback over several years and most of it was accident rather than choice. What did not change is the thing the question hangs on. SOSA publishes no petrol product, no diesel product and no electric product, and makes no claim that a fragrance behaves differently according to what turns the wheels. A perfume sits in a closed volume of air with a person in it. So choose on the new car experience by all means - and then notice that the new experience is made of new upholstery, a different parking space and a set of habits you have not formed yet.
SOSA Vetiver car perfume, spray or hanging, from Rs 449
SOSA car perfume · spray or hanging, same price · nine scents from ₹449 →
The right instinct with the wrong label on it. A new car is a real moment to choose a cabin identity deliberately, because the old one was mostly accumulated. But what changed is new upholstery, a different parking space and habits you have not formed - SOSA publishes no powertrain claim and no product tied to one. A 10ml spray at ₹449 to ₹549 is 100 sprays, which is plenty of attempts at something new.
Quick answers — read this first
Should I choose a new car fragrance based on the new car experience? Yes, and it is the better framing of the two. What you are responding to is real: a cabin that smells of nothing yet, a different seat material, a new place the car sleeps and a routine you have not settled. Those genuinely change what suits. A 10ml spray is ₹449 to ₹549 and holds 100 sprays, which is a generous number of attempts at a new identity.

Does the fact that it is my first electric hatchback change the fragrance? No, and it is worth being clear rather than diplomatic about it. SOSA makes no powertrain claim and publishes no product tied to one, so nothing about propulsion enters the decision. What changed alongside it - the upholstery, where you park, how many journeys you now make - changes plenty. Those are the variables to answer.

Should I wait before choosing? There is a decent case for it. A new interior has its own smell and it fades on its own; a routine takes a few weeks to settle; and the parking space may turn out to matter more than anything else. A fortnight of driving costs nothing and tells you more than a shop can. Both formats are the same price for the same scent, so waiting costs you nothing either.
The short answer
Short answer: Yes - choose on the new car experience. But the experience is made of new upholstery, a different parking space and habits you have not formed, not of propulsion. SOSA publishes no petrol, diesel or electric product and no powertrain claim. A 10ml spray is Rs 449 to Rs 549 and holds 100 sprays; the 12ml hanging is the same price and runs 4 to 6 weeks.
The pick: A 10ml SOSA car perfume spray, ₹449 to ₹549 - 100 sprays, which is enough attempts to build a new cabin identity deliberately rather than by accident.
Why: A new identity is worth choosing rather than inheriting, and the spray is the format that lets you change your mind while you are still deciding.
What the car runs on is not the variable. How it is used is.On demand - 10ml spray ₹449 to ₹549, published at 100 spraysContinuous - 12ml hanging, same price, 4 to 6 weeksVentilate a hot or long-shut cabin before you judge itNever - fragrance instead of finding a smell's source
A car spends most of its life empty. The hours that matter are the ones somebody is sitting in it, and on a typical commute that is one or two out of twenty-four. The useful decision is therefore not which product lasts longest while nobody is there - it is whether you want fragrance you switch on or fragrance that simply runs. A 10ml spray is published at 100 sprays, which is three months at one a day and fifty days at two; a 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks and its stopper loosens for more or tightens for less. Nothing here depends on what is under the bonnet.
Straight answer
I have switched from a petrol hatchback to my first electric hatchback and I want a completely different cabin fragrance identity. Should I choose based on the new car experience rather than on the powertrain itself?
Yes to the experience, and the powertrain is not part of it. Take the second half first, because it clears the ground. SOSA publishes no petrol product, no diesel product and no electric product, and makes no claim that a fragrance behaves differently according to what moves the car. A perfume sits in a closed volume of air with a person in it, and that volume is indifferent to propulsion. So there is no electric answer to find, and any page offering you one is inventing it. Now the half that is real, and it is more interesting. What actually changed when you changed cars is three things. The upholstery is new, which means the cabin currently smells of itself and of nothing you put there - the old car's identity was partly chosen and mostly accumulated over years of journeys, and you are getting a genuine blank start, which is rarer than it sounds. The parking has probably changed too - a home charging routine usually means the car now sleeps in a particular place, and where a car spends its shut hours is a real variable in a way that the plug is not. And your habits have not settled: a new car is driven differently for the first month, with more short trips because it is novel and a different sense of how many journeys the day contains. All three of those change what suits the cabin, and none of them is on the spec sheet. Practically: a 10ml spray at ₹449 for Jasmine, ₹479 for Lavender and Sandalwood, ₹489 for Icy Mint, ₹499 for Lemon, ₹509 for Oud, Vetiver and Sea Breeze and ₹549 for Mysore Orange Blossom holds 100 sprays - 3 months and above at one a day, 50 days at two - and that is a lot of attempts at a new identity. The 12ml hanging costs the same for the same scent, runs 4 to 6 weeks in refillable glass and adjusts at the stopper, and it is the better buy once you know what you want rather than while you are finding out. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
New upholstery, a new parking space, new habits. Those changed. What turns the wheels did not.
The short version: say yes to the new experience and be precise about what it is - new upholstery, a new overnight parking space, habits that have not settled. Nothing about propulsion enters it. A 10ml at ₹449 to ₹549 is 100 sprays, three months and above at one a day, and that is a generous number of attempts at a first deliberate cabin identity.
SOSA car perfumes from ₹449

Three things that actually changed when you changed cars, and one that did not

A change of car is one of the few honest occasions to start a cabin identity deliberately. Three things genuinely changed, and recognising which is which makes the choice much easier than the showroom version of it.

01
New upholstery
The cabin currently smells of itself, and that is temporary
The strongest single difference between your two cars is that one of them had several years of you in it. The old identity was mostly accumulated rather than chosen - journeys, weather, whatever was carried in the boot - and the new cabin has none of that yet. Two things follow. First, you have a genuine blank page, which is the actual opportunity here and is worth using deliberately. Second, a new interior has its own smell for a while, and it goes on its own; fragrance adds a scent to a cabin and does not remove one, so layering over a brand-new interior in week one means choosing while the baseline is still moving. A short wait is not indecision, it is sequencing.
Tip: You are not replacing the old identity. You are choosing one for the first time.
02
A different parking space
Where the car sleeps changed, and that is a real variable
This is the change people attribute to the plug, and it belongs to the parking. A car charged at home usually acquires a settled overnight place - a driveway, a covered bay, a basement - and where a car spends its shut hours is one of the few things that genuinely differs between two owners. Eight or ten hours closed in a covered bay is a different situation from eight hours closed outdoors, and it would be equally different for a petrol car on the same driveway, which is the point. Charging is not a fragrance variable; closure and location are. If your old car lived on the street and the new one lives under cover, that is a change worth noticing when you judge how the cabin is on a Monday morning.
03
Habits you have not formed
A new car is driven differently for its first month
The least obvious of the three and often the largest. New cars get driven more, in shorter bursts, for the first few weeks - errands that would have waited, a longer way home, somebody else asking for a lift. That changes the only quantity in this decision you can actually control: how many times you press the atomizer. A 10ml is 100 sprays, published as 3 months and above at one a day and 50 days at two a day, so a month of novelty driving with a spray before each outing will empty a bottle far quicker than the headline suggests. That is arithmetic rather than a defect, and it is one more reason to let the routine settle before committing to a scent or a size.
Tip: Let the new routine appear before you buy for it. It will not look like month one.
SOSA Mysore Orange Blossom car perfume spray, 10ml and 50ml
The one number that settles most of this
A 10ml spray is 100 sprays. The rest is division.
SOSA publishes the count on the bottle: a 10ml spray is 100 sprays, and the 50ml is 500 sprays and about a year and more. The pages state the working too - three months and above at one spray a day, and fifty days at two a day. That turns a vague question into an arithmetic one. Spray before every journey and somebody making four short trips a day is out of a 10ml in about twenty-five days; the same bottle in the hands of somebody who sprays once each morning lasts the published three months. Neither is wrong - but only one of them is what the person expected when they bought it. Work out your own number before you decide the product is not lasting, because a hundred sprays is a hundred sprays regardless of how the car is powered.

Work it out in this order
Building a new cabin identity, in order
  1. Separate what changed. Upholstery, parking and habits did. Propulsion did not.
  2. Give the new interior a fortnight. Its own smell fades without your help.
  3. Decide which direction is a real break from the old car, then cross the range.
  4. Start with a 10ml spray, one press a day. That is 100 sprays to test it with.
The SOSA principle
Choose on the new car by all means. Just be precise about what is new: the upholstery, the parking space and the habits, none of which is the powertrain.
That precision is what turns a vague wish for something different into a choice you can actually make and check.

Choosing a new identity properly, given that the old one was built over years

A deliberate break from the old car's identity usually means crossing the range rather than moving within it, and since the spray and the hanging are the same price for the same scent, nothing about the format constrains it. If the previous car was bright, the move is towards Sandalwood at ₹479, Vetiver at ₹509 or Oud at ₹509, which is published as the deepest of the nine. If it was deep, the move is towards Icy Mint at ₹489, Lemon at ₹499 or Sea Breeze at ₹509. If it was a soft floral, Jasmine at ₹449 and Lavender at ₹479 are the two you are trying to get away from, and Lavender is the softest published. Mysore Orange Blossom at ₹549 is a genuine sidestep and is spray only, with no hanging version and no refill.

The SOSA gift edit
Four ways to start a new cabin identity, and the cost of each
The option Who it suits, and where it fails
Wait a fortnight, then buy a 10ml spray at ₹449 to ₹549 The sequence this page recommends. The interior settles, the routine appears, and then 100 sprays gives you three months and above to test a choice. It fails if the wait feels like an anticlimax on a car you are excited about.
Buy on day one and change later if needed Perfectly reasonable, and a 10ml is a small commitment. It fails on judgement rather than money - you are choosing against a baseline that is still moving, so what you decide in week one may not be what you would decide in week six.
The Discovery Set, nine published combinations from ₹699 The deliberate way to cross the range rather than guess at it. It fails as a custom exercise: the nine combinations are fixed and none is composed to order, so you choose from the published list.
A 12ml hanging at the same price, straight away 4 to 6 weeks of continuous diffusion in refillable glass with the stopper as its control, and nothing to remember. It fails as a first move on a new car, because it commits the cabin to one setting while you are still working out what you want it to be.
SOSA Lavender car perfume, spray and hanging formats
The format choice, and why price does not decide it
Spray or hanging - the same price, scent for scent
This is the unusual part of the SOSA car range and it makes the decision cleaner than it usually is: the spray and the hanging cost the same for any given scent - ₹449 for Jasmine, ₹479 for Lavender and Sandalwood, ₹489 for Icy Mint, ₹499 for Lemon, ₹509 for Oud, Vetiver and Sea Breeze. So you are not trading money against convenience; you are choosing between fragrance you decide to have and fragrance that is simply there. The spray is 100 sprays in 10ml and you control every one of them. The hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks in refillable glass and asks nothing of you, and its stopper is the strength control - loosen for stronger, tighten for subtler. One further practical difference that decides it for some people: 15ml refills exist for the hanging and there is no spray refill at all.
See SOSA car perfumes from ₹449 →

Two things to know before committing to a new identity. 15ml refills exist for the hanging at ₹399 to ₹449 across eight scents in a refillable glass bottle, and there is no spray refill at all; Orange Blossom has no refill in either form, so a sidestep to it is a repurchase each time. The Discovery Set publishes nine fixed combinations, from ₹699 to ₹899 for a trio and ₹2,999 for all nine, and there are four combos at ₹899 and ₹949. Everything is alcohol-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free and IFRA-compliant and formulated and tested for 45 degrees C heat and 85 per cent relative humidity, which describes how the formula holds rather than how it performs in a season.

The premise worth rejecting before anything else
A fragrance does not know what is turning the wheels.
There is no petrol product, no diesel product and no electric product in the SOSA range, and SOSA publishes nothing whatsoever about powertrain - because a perfume in a closed cabin behaves the same way whether that cabin is being pushed along by a battery or an engine. What genuinely differs between two owners is everything else: where the car is parked and for how long, how many separate journeys it makes in a day, how many of those hours anybody is actually inside it, whether the windows are open, and who else is in the car. Those are real variables and they change the answer completely. The published figures speak to them directly: a 10ml spray is 100 sprays, which is three months and more at one a day and fifty days at two; a 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks continuously with a stopper that loosens for more and tightens for less; the 50ml is 500 sprays and about a year and more. So when two people with identical cars need different answers, it is never because one of them is electric.

One message, one honest recommendation
Tell SOSA how many hours a day somebody is actually sitting in the car, where it is parked and for how long, whether the windows are usually open or shut, and who else drives it - and you will be told which format and how much, including the times the honest answer is the hanging at the same price because you would rather not think about it.

The old car's identity was mostly accumulated. This is the rare moment when you get to choose one instead - and that is worth a fortnight's patience.

The SOSA gifting range

Two questions settle almost every car fragrance decision, and neither of them is what the car runs on. How many hours a day is somebody actually sitting in it? A 25 km commute is about an hour; a field job can be four. That number decides how much of what you buy is experienced by anybody at all, because the rest of the day is a sealed cabin in a parking bay. Then: do you want fragrance you switch on, or fragrance that simply runs? The 10ml spray holds 100 sprays and does nothing until you press it; the 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks whether anybody is there or not, and its stopper loosens for stronger or tightens for subtler. They cost the same for the same scent, so price does not decide it - which is unusual, and useful.

Product What it is What it is for Price
SOSA car perfume spray - 10ml Fragrance you switch on ₹449 to ₹549 across nine scents. Published at 100 sprays - 3 months and above at one a day, 50 days at two a day. A fine-mist atomizer; one spray covers the cabin from ₹449
SOSA car hanging - 12ml Fragrance that simply runs The same price as the spray, scent for scent. Published at 4 to 6 weeks of continuous diffusion in a refillable glass bottle, and the stopper adjusts it - loosen for stronger, tighten for subtler from ₹449
SOSA car perfume spray - 50ml The long-run size ₹1,499, published at 500 sprays and about a year and more. The honest size when you already know the routine, and the wrong one while you are still working it out ₹1,499
Car perfume combos Two scents, one purchase ₹899 for Jasmine & Lemon or Jasmine & Lavender; ₹949 for Oud + Lemon or Sandalwood & Oud. Spray combo (2 x 10ml) or hanging combo (2 x 12ml) at the same price. Four published pairs from ₹899
Car Perfume Sprays Discovery Set Three to try ₹699 to ₹899 for three sprays, or ₹2,999 for all nine. Nine published combinations, and those nine are the whole range - none is composed to order from ₹699
Hanging refills - 15ml Only the hanging refills ₹399 to ₹449 across eight scents. There is no spray refill, and Orange Blossom has no refill at all - so if refilling matters, that decides the format for you from ₹399
SOSA Safar The powered option ₹3,999, or ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired sets. A different category from a spray or a hanging, and listed here so you can rule it in or out rather than wonder from ₹3,999

The fact that answers most of these questions is a division sum. A 10ml spray is published at 100 sprays. Somebody who sprays before each of four short daily trips empties it in about twenty-five days; somebody who sprays once a day gets the published three months and more. The 50ml is 500 sprays and about a year and more. The 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks instead, continuously, and its stopper adjusts the strength - loosen for more, tighten for less. Spray and hanging are the same price scent for scent, so the choice is genuinely about how you want to use the car rather than what you want to spend. Everything is alcohol-free, phthalate-free and IFRA-compliant, formulated for 45 degrees C heat and 85 per cent humidity, made in India. Fragrance adds a scent to a cabin; it does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify an odour and it does not clean the air - so a car that has developed a smell is a question about the car, not about the perfume. Prices above are published retail prices; bulk orders are welcome and custom label or logo on product is available, with quantities settled on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531. SOSA is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, sending orders across India. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal

We get asked which car perfume is right for an electric car, and I have never been able to give the answer the question wants. There isn't one. A fragrance sits in a closed box of air with a person in it, and that box does not behave differently because the thing moving it is a battery. If anyone tells you otherwise they are selling you a category, not a product.

What I can tell you is what actually changes between two owners, because it is not subtle. One car is occupied ninety minutes a day and another is occupied six. One sits in a basement and one bakes outdoors for nine hours. One has the windows down for the first ten minutes of every drive and one never opens them at all. One is driven by three people who want three different things from it. Those differences are enormous, and none of them is on the spec sheet of the car.

So the numbers I would want you to hold on to are the ones about use rather than about chemistry. A 10ml spray is a hundred sprays. That is three months if you spray once a day and about fifty days if you spray twice, and if you spray before every one of four short errands it is gone in under a month. The hanging runs four to six weeks and you can loosen or tighten the stopper to change it. Those two facts settle more of these questions than anything I could tell you about the car.

And the part I will not pretend about: a perfume cannot fix a smell. It adds a scent, it does not remove one. If a car has started smelling of something it did not smell of before, that is a question about the car - the air-conditioning, the mats, something in the boot, water that got in during the monsoon - and adding fragrance on top of it is the one thing I would ask you not to do.

Frequently asked questions

Does an electric hatchback need a different perfume from a petrol one?
No. SOSA publishes no petrol, diesel or electric product and makes no claim that a fragrance behaves differently according to what moves the car. A perfume sits in a closed volume of air with a person in it, and that situation is identical in both. What genuinely changes between two owners is parking, occupied hours, ventilation and how many people share the vehicle.
Is it a good idea to change cabin fragrance when I change cars?
It is one of the few natural moments to do it deliberately. The old identity was built over years and was mostly accumulated rather than chosen, and the new cabin gives you a blank start. The honest caveat is that a new interior has its own smell for a while and your routine has not settled, so a short wait makes the choice better rather than slower.
How long should I wait before choosing a scent for a new car?
A fortnight of ordinary driving is usually enough to see the real routine rather than the novelty one, and to let the interior settle. Nothing SOSA publishes puts a number on it, so this is judgement rather than a specification. Both formats cost the same for the same scent, so waiting costs nothing except the pleasure of starting.
Did home charging change anything about the cabin?
Charging itself is not a fragrance variable and SOSA publishes nothing about it. What often changes alongside it is the parking: a car charged at home tends to acquire a settled overnight place, and eight or ten hours shut in a covered bay is a different situation from the same hours shut outdoors. That would be equally true of a petrol car on the same driveway.
Should I buy the Discovery Set to find a new direction?
It is the sensible way to cross the range rather than guess, and it suits somebody deliberately changing identity. It publishes nine fixed combinations, from Rs 699 for a trio up to Rs 2,999 for all nine sprays, and none is composed to order - you choose from the published list. If you already know the direction, a single 10ml at Rs 449 to Rs 549 is the cheaper test.

What is not published, and is therefore not stated here: any difference in fragrance behaviour between petrol, diesel and electric vehicles - SOSA makes no powertrain-specific product and no powertrain claim; any cabin-volume, coverage, scent-throw, projection or evaporation figure; any claim about how a scent is perceived over hours or about sensory adaptation; any seasonal performance claim beyond the stated formulation for heat and humidity; any shelf life, expiry or concentration; and any bulk rate, minimum quantity, price break or lead time. Limits of this guide: fragrance adds a scent to a cabin. It does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify an odour, it does not clean the air, and a car that has developed a new smell is a question about the vehicle rather than about perfume. No health claim is made anywhere on this page, in either direction - nothing here states or implies that any fragrance causes or prevents a headache, nausea, motion sickness or any other effect, and nothing is said about safety in pregnancy or for children or the elderly, because SOSA publishes no information this page can rely on. No third-party brand is named and no competitor or category of competing product is characterised. No rating, review count, strength percentage or customer name from any product page is cited. Bulk orders are welcome and custom label or logo on product is available; that is the only branding option, and quantities are settled on WhatsApp. SOSA Home & Body is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, Maharashtra, sending orders across India, with no shop, showroom, stockist, counter or warehouse in any other city. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live product pages.
