Founder Diaries · Reed Diffuser & Home Fragrance Gifting
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 10 min read Updated September 2026
The interesting thing about this question is that the problem is not the rooms. Serviced apartments in three cities are broadly similar objects - a bed, a kitchenette, a desk, air conditioning. What differs is what is available to buy near each of them. A scent bought in Bandra is not a scent that can be bought again in Indiranagar, and neither is easy to repeat in a third country. So somebody living across three cities is not choosing one fragrance three times, they are choosing three different fragrances by accident, because the supply keeps changing under them. SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 is about 6.9 cm and takes the supply question out of the equation, because it goes with them.
SOSA Safar portable waterless diffuser for serviced apartments, Rs 3,999
SOSA Safar · the same object in every city ₹3,999 →
The one thing that does not change when the city does. SOSA Safar, ₹3,999 - cold diffusion of pure oil from a 20ml bottle, about 6.9 cm, a 2000 mAh battery over Type-C giving up to 10 hours continuous or 30 hours intermittent, three speeds and a 1, 2 or 3-hour auto shut-off timer.
Quick answers — read this first
Can one device give somebody the same scent in three different cities? It can give them the same object and the same oil in three cities, which is the part that otherwise changes. SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 is a waterless cordless diffuser of about 6.9 cm, with a 2000 mAh Type-C battery, 3 speeds and a 1, 2 or 3-hour auto shut-off timer. SOSA publishes it for a car, a handbag, a desk or a hotel room.

Why not just buy something local in each place? Because then there are three of them and they are all different. Local ranges vary by city and by country, a favourite gets discontinued in one and not the other, and three part-used bottles end up in three apartments. Carrying one object and one oil replaces three independent supply problems with a single decision made once.

What about travelling between the three with it? That is the airline's call and not SOSA's. Safar has a rechargeable lithium battery and it carries fragrance oil, and rules about batteries and liquids belong to the airline rather than to SOSA - the honest advice is that they check once with the carrier they use most and then stop thinking about it. Nobody at a fragrance company can answer that for them.
The short answer
Short answer: One carried object and one oil replaces three local supply chains. SOSA Safar is Rs 3,999, approximately 6.9 cm, waterless and cordless, with three speeds and a 1, 2 or 3-hour auto shut-off timer. Rules about batteries and liquids belong to the airline rather than to SOSA.
The pick: A SOSA Safar at ₹3,999, or ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired trios - the object travels, so what is sold locally stops mattering.
Why: Across three cities the variable is not the apartment, it is what can be bought near it. A carried device and a carried oil are the same in all three, which is a consistency that buying locally cannot produce however good the local range is.
Sending something when somebody is having a hard time - at a glanceKeep it small - candle ₹399, attar ₹379, car scent ₹449For their home - reed diffuser ₹749, nothing to switch onSay the words yourself - no card goes in the parcelNever - a parcel instead of turning up
A gift cannot change how somebody's week went, and a page that suggests otherwise is not worth reading. What a small parcel does is tell a person you were thinking about them on a day when nothing made you - which is a real thing to say, and worth saying. Keep it small, because a large one asks somebody already short of energy to produce a reaction, and send the words separately, because the object cannot carry them.
Straight answer
What portable fragrance gift suits a client living in serviced apartments across Mumbai, Bengaluru and Dubai?
Something they carry, because the thing that changes between the three is supply rather than the rooms. Serviced apartments are much the same everywhere; what is not the same is the range available near each one, which means a fragrance chosen in one city is often unrepeatable in the next. SOSA Safar at ₹3,999, or ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired trios, is approximately 6.9 cm, runs pure fragrance oil from a 20ml bottle with no water, has a 2000 mAh battery over Type-C giving up to 10 hours continuous or up to 30 hours intermittent per charge, three speeds and a 1, 2 or 3-hour auto shut-off timer that matters in a flat somebody leaves for a fortnight. Four honest points for a client gift. It adds a scent and does not remove, neutralise or mask one. No coverage figure is published. Rules about batteries and liquids belong to the airline rather than to SOSA, so they should check with theirs. And SOSA is based in Pune and sends across India, so this is bought and handed over here and then travels with them - there is no overseas arrangement being described. Bulk orders are welcome and branding is a custom label or logo on the product, with no numbers quoted on either. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Three cities is not three rooms to solve. It is three different sets of what happens to be sold nearby, and a carried object is the only thing that is identical in all three.
The object that is the same in all three cities: Safar at ₹3,999 - about 6.9 cm, no water, and not dependent on what any local range happens to carry.
See SOSA Safar ₹3,999

Three cities, three supply chains, and one object that is not subject to any of them

Three things to work through: what actually varies across the three cities, what a carried object does about it, and the limits worth stating plainly before this goes to a client.

1
The first thing
What varies across three cities is supply, not rooms
Put the three apartments side by side and they are not very different. A serviced flat is a serviced flat - the furniture is chosen to be inoffensive, the layout is efficient, and nothing in it is theirs. That sameness is why "make each one feel different" is the wrong project.

What genuinely differs is the range within reach of each address. In one city a particular brand is everywhere; in the next it is not carried at all; in a third country the range is different again and priced in another currency. So somebody buying fragrance locally in three places is not running one scent ritual, they are running three, and the three drift apart over a year.

There are second-order costs to that too. Three part-used bottles in three flats, none of which is where they are this week. A favourite that disappears from the range in one city and stays in another. And a slow accumulation of nearly-finished things in apartments they will hand back.

A carried object takes that variable out of the equation entirely. Not because it is better than what is sold locally - some of it will be excellent - but because it is the same one, and sameness is the thing three cities cannot supply.
Tip: They are not choosing one fragrance three times. The supply is choosing three fragrances for them.
2
The second thing
What a carried device has to be to survive that life
Three requirements, and the published specification meets all three.

It has to be small enough to be worth moving. Approximately 6.9 cm, plus a 20ml bottle and a Type-C cable. That goes in the bag that is already going.

It has to not depend on the flat. There is no water in it, nothing to mount, no socket needed while it runs and no flame. A 2000 mAh battery over Type-C gives up to 10 hours continuous or up to 30 hours intermittent per charge, and Type-C is a cable they already carry. Serviced apartments differ in their sockets; they do not differ in whether a charged battery works.

It has to stop on its own. The 1, 2 or 3-hour auto shut-off timer is the underrated feature for somebody who leaves a flat for two weeks at a time. They set it, it stops, and departure involves no extra thing to remember.

The oil is the other half of removing the variable, and it is worth planning once rather than three times. SOSA's waterless nebuliser oils are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm in scents including vetiver, neelakurinji, Malabar lemon, sage and cedar and mahogany. Buying the supply here, once, is what makes the ritual identical in all three places rather than merely similar. One caution: how long 20ml of oil lasts is not published, so plan the supply by preference rather than by a duration figure somebody invented.
3
The third thing
The limits to state plainly before this goes to a client
Moving between the three is the airline's business. It has a rechargeable lithium battery and it carries fragrance oil, and rules about batteries and liquids belong to the airline rather than to SOSA. Anybody who tells you it is definitely fine in one direction or the other is guessing. The right line to a client is to say exactly that and let them check with the carrier they use.

It adds a scent; it does not remove one. It does not neutralise, mask or clean anything, and it is aroma only. That matters for a serviced apartment, because a flat handed over between tenants sometimes has a smell of its own, and this sits alongside that rather than dealing with it.

No coverage figure is published - no square footage, no room size. Three speeds from light to intense are the control that exists.

On the commercial side, be careful what you promise. Bulk orders are welcome and bespoke composition is a real service, but SOSA publishes no rate, no minimum and no schedule of any kind, so do not quote one. Branding is exactly one thing: a custom label or logo on the product. There is no box, sleeve, insert or wrap service. And nothing on this page claims any commercial effect from giving a client a gift, because no fragrance company can honestly claim one.

Finally, SOSA is based in Pune and sends across India. A gift for somebody who spends part of their year abroad is bought and handed over here, and then it travels with them. Talk to SOSA on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531, which is also where to ask what comes in the box - the page lists the diffuser, the 20ml bottle, a Type-C cable and the manual, and separately says to add your own fragrance oil.
Tip: Bulk is welcome with no numbers, branding is a label or logo on the product, and the airline decides the rest.
SOSA Safar waterless diffuser with three speeds and an auto shut-off timer
The feature that matters away from home
The auto shut-off timer is why this works in a room you are leaving
Safar has a 1, 2 or 3-hour auto shut-off timer and three speed settings. That sounds like a specification line and it is actually the whole argument for using it somewhere that is not your house: you are in somebody else's property, you will walk out in the morning, and you do not want to be the person wondering whether they switched something off. Set it when you drop your bag, and it stops on its own. The battery gives up to 10 hours continuous or up to 30 hours intermittent on one charge - which on a four-night trip usually means the Type-C cable stays in the bag.
See SOSA Safar ₹3,999 →
Work it out in this order
How to settle this before you buy for a client
  1. Name the real variable: not three rooms, but three different sets of local supply.
  2. Check the object travels: about 6.9 cm, no water, Type-C, a 1/2/3-hour shut-off.
  3. Plan the oil once, here: Rs 1,049 for 100 gm or Rs 1,849 for 300 gm.
  4. Say plainly that battery and liquid rules are the airline's, not SOSA's.
The SOSA principle
Consistency across cities is usually treated as a taste problem when it is a logistics one. The reason somebody's scent changes when they move between three places is rarely that their preference changed; it is that the shelf changed, and they adapted without noticing.
That reframing is what makes a carried object the answer rather than a nicer local purchase. You are not buying a better fragrance than the ones available in three cities. You are buying the only one that is the same in all of them.

Which trio for a client, and the oil supply question

Two tiers, and for a client gift the choice between them says something. At ₹3,999 the SOSA-scent trios are vetiver with Mysore sandalwood and tobacco vanilla, white jasmine with neelakurinji and Malabar lemon, or Japanese cherry blossom with mahogany and sage and cedar. At ₹4,499 the hotel-inspired trios are SOSA's own interpretations of the kind of scent associated with certain hotel groups, and the disclosure is not optional: these are SOSA compositions and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. For somebody moving between serviced apartments, the ₹3,999 tier is usually the more considered choice - the point of the gift is a scent that is theirs across three cities rather than one more space that reads like a lobby. The ₹4,499 tier is the right call only if you know they are attached to a particular hotel's character and would enjoy the reference.

The SOSA gift edit
Four ways to handle fragrance across three cities
The option Who it suits, and where it fails
SOSA Safar · ₹3,999 to ₹4,499 One object, one oil, three cities. About 6.9 cm, no water, a 2000 mAh Type-C battery giving up to 30 hours intermittent, three speeds and a 1/2/3-hour auto shut-off. The consistency is the whole point. It fails if they will not carry one more thing, and moving between countries with it is the airline's rule rather than SOSA's.
Buying something local in each city · the default Easy, needs no planning, and produces three different fragrances plus three part-used bottles in three flats they hand back. Local ranges vary by city and by country, so a favourite in one place may not exist in the next. Perfectly workable; just not a single ritual, whatever the intention was.
An attar trio · ₹1,055 to ₹3,189 Three 3ml alcohol-free roll-ons, the most portable answer on this page by a distance and a third of the price. It scents the person rather than the apartment, so it solves consistency for how they smell rather than for the rooms they are standing in. A good companion gift, a poor swap.
A reed diffuser · from ₹749 Liquid in an open bottle running about 6 to 10 weeks, which suits a long stay in one of the three and is the wrong object to move between them. If one city is genuinely the main base for months at a time, a reed there plus a carried device for the other two is a sensible split rather than a compromise.
SOSA Safar waterless travel diffuser, approximately 6.9 cm
The measurement the packing question turns on
6.9 cm, no water, and nothing that can leak into a suitcase
A reed diffuser is liquid in an open bottle and a candle needs a flame, which is why neither travels. Safar is approximately 6.9 cm, takes no water at all, and carries its fragrance as pure oil in a sealed 20ml bottle - so the thing that usually rules a fragrance product out of a suitcase does not apply. Two honest notes: what arrives in terms of oil is worth confirming before you buy this as a gift, and battery and liquid rules for flying belong to the airline, not to SOSA, so check with yours rather than with a page.
See the nebuliser oils from ₹1,049 →

Two practical notes. Safar takes pure fragrance oil into its 20ml bottle and no water. SOSA's waterless nebuliser oils are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm and a good-quality pure essential oil also works, but thick, sticky or water-based blends can clog the mechanism - which is a worse problem when the nearest replacement is in another country. It never takes the ₹299 water-based Hotel Collection bottle, which belongs to the ultrasonic machines. And if the client also has a permanent office or a large home here, the other end of the range is SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999: mains-powered, rated for approximately 1000 m3 of connected air, a Bluetooth app and timer, a 400ml tank, with freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting. It stays where it is installed, which is exactly why it answers a different question from this one.

SOSA Safar waterless cordless travel perfume diffuser, Rs 3,999
₹3,999. Vetiver with Mysore sandalwood and tobacco vanilla, white jasmine with neelakurinji and Malabar lemon, or Japanese cherry blossom with mahogany and sage and cedar. 6.9 cm, cordless, Type-C.
₹3,999
SOSA Safar waterless diffuser, hotel-inspired trios, Rs 4,499
₹4,499. The same device with SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand, and these are SOSA compositions rather than the hotel scents they are described as inspired by.
₹4,499
SOSA waterless nebuliser refill oils for Safar and Vaayu, from Rs 1,049
Waterless nebuliser oils at ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm. Pure oil into the 20ml bottle, no water. Thick, sticky or water-based blends can clog the mechanism, so this is not the place to improvise.
from ₹1,049
The one distinction that settles most of these questions
Safar ₹3,999 goes with the person. Vaayu ₹11,999 stays with the building
Safar is 6.9 cm, runs on a 2000 mAh battery over Type-C, and gives up to 10 hours continuous or up to 30 hours intermittent on one charge, with 3 speeds and a 1/2/3-hour auto shut-off timer. It is published for a car, a handbag, a desk or a hotel room, and it is aroma only - it does not humidify. Vaayu is the opposite proposition: a mains-powered waterless cold-air machine rated for approximately 1000 m3 of connected air, with a Bluetooth app and timer, a 400ml tank, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting and a DC 12V / 1A 5W supply, CE, RoHS and SGS marked. That rating assumes one connected body of air, so a Vaayu suits a large open home or a business and is wrong for a property with every door shut - and it is wrong for a suitcase by definition. Both run waterless nebuliser oil at ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm, and neither takes the ₹299 water-based Hotel Collection bottle. So the question is rarely which is better. It is whether you are scenting a place or a person's week.

Nobody deliberately changes their fragrance when they change cities. The shelf changes and they go along with it.

The SOSA gifting range

Two questions settle almost every reed diffuser gift, and the first one is not price. How big is the room it is going into? A 50ml suits a bedroom, a study, a hallway or a first diffuser; a 130ml suits an open-plan living and dining area, and it is genuinely too much for a small closed bedroom. Then: how much do you actually know about their taste? The less you know, the less declarative the scent should be - Morning Freshness is the safest of the five for a home you have never stood in, and Fresh Brew coffee-vanilla is the strongest opinion in the range. Price follows those two answers rather than leading them.

Safar adds a scent to a room. It does not remove, neutralise or mask one, and it is aroma only - it does not humidify. No coverage or room-size figure is published for Safar, and the runtime figures describe the battery on one charge rather than how long 20ml of oil lasts, which is not published. What the Safar page publishes, and what it does not
Everything below is on the live product page. Anything not on this list is not something a page like this should state.
  • The device - SOSA Safar, a waterless cordless cold-diffusion perfume diffuser, aroma only. Approximately 6.9 cm, so it fits a cup-holder or a handbag. Published for a car, a handbag, a desk or a hotel room.
  • Power - a 2000 mAh rechargeable lithium battery charged over Type-C, cable included. Up to 10 hours continuous or up to 30 hours intermittent on one charge. Those figures describe the battery, not how long the oil lasts.
  • Control - 3 speeds from light to intense, and a 1 / 2 / 3-hour auto shut-off timer. The timer is the reason it works in a room you are going to walk out of.
  • The oil - a 20ml bottle, filled with pure fragrance oil. SOSA waterless nebuliser oils are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm; a good-quality pure essential oil also works, while thick, sticky or water-based blends can clog the mechanism. It never takes the ₹299 water-based Hotel Collection bottle.
  • Price - ₹3,999 for the SOSA-scent trios and ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired trios, which are SOSA's own interpretations; SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. In the box: the diffuser, the 20ml bottle, a Type-C cable and a user manual. Country of origin China (imported) - SOSA's fragrances are made in India, the device is not.
  • Not published, and therefore never stated here: any coverage, room-size or square-footage figure; how long a charge takes; how long a 20ml fill lasts; any warranty period beyond being backed by SOSA support; noise, water resistance or operating temperature; anything about carrying a lithium battery on an aircraft, which is the airline's rule and not SOSA's; and anything about what a hotel will or will not permit in its rooms. Those go to WhatsApp +91 96192 18531, or in the case of flying, to your airline.

A note from Sonal

Safar started as a car product and then the messages changed. People kept writing to tell me where they had actually been using it, and it was almost never the car. It was a hotel room in a city they were in for two nights. It was a serviced flat in a place they had not chosen to live. It was a daughter's room in a university halls of residence eleven time zones away.

What I think is going on is quite specific, and it is not about luxury. A room you have not chosen is a room you have no memory of. Everything in it was selected by somebody else for somebody who is not you, and most of it is perfectly nice. The thing that makes a space yours is not how expensive it is - it is that something in it is the same as it was yesterday. Scent is unusually good at being that something, because it is the one part of a room you can carry in a handbag.

The feature I would point at, if I could only point at one, is the auto shut-off timer. It sounds like a small engineering detail and it is the reason the thing works away from home. You are in somebody else's property, you will leave in the morning, and you do not want to think about whether you switched something off. One hour, two or three, and it stops on its own.

And the part I will not dress up: this does not fix anything about being far from the people you like. It is a diffuser. It adds a scent you chose to a space you did not choose, and it does not remove whatever the room already smells of. That is a smaller claim than the ones usually made about travel products, and it happens to be true.

Frequently asked questions

Can one portable diffuser really be used in three different cities?
It is a cordless waterless device of approximately 6.9 cm with a 2000 mAh Type-C battery, so nothing about it is tied to a particular flat. The published runtime is up to 10 hours continuous or up to 30 hours intermittent per charge, and there is a 1, 2 or 3-hour auto shut-off timer. Whether it moves between cities with them is a question of habit, and of their airline's rules.
What about carrying it on flights between the three cities?
Rules about batteries and liquids belong to the airline rather than to SOSA. It has a rechargeable lithium battery and it carries fragrance oil, and that makes it a matter for the carrier and the airport rather than for a fragrance company. The useful thing to tell a client is to check once with the airline they use most, rather than to rely on anybody's assurance.
Can several of these be ordered together for clients?
Bulk orders are welcome and SOSA will discuss them on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531, but no rate, minimum or schedule of any kind is published, so this page will not quote one. The same applies to bespoke composition, which is a real service with no published pricing. Branding is exactly one thing: a custom label or logo on the product.
Does it deal with a smell in a serviced apartment between tenants?
No. Safar adds a scent you chose to a space you did not choose, and it does not remove, neutralise, mask or clean anything. It is aroma only. If a flat genuinely smells wrong when somebody checks in, that is a matter for whoever manages the building, and a fragrance will sit alongside it rather than deal with it.
Where does SOSA send from, and what comes in the box?
SOSA is based in Pune and sends across India, so a gift for somebody who spends part of the year abroad is handed over here and then travels with them. The product page lists the diffuser, a 20ml bottle, a Type-C cable and the user manual in the box, and separately says to add your own fragrance oil, so ask on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 what comes with it before buying it as a client gift.

SOSA waterless nebuliser oils, which Safar and SOSA Vaayu both run on, are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm; neither device takes the ₹299 water-based Hotel Collection bottle. SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 is a mains-powered waterless cold-air nebulising diffuser rated for approximately 1000 cubic metres of connected air with a Bluetooth app and timer, a 400 ml tank, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting and a DC 12V / 1A 5W supply, CE, RoHS and SGS; SOSA Meenar ₹38,500 covers 12,000 to 18,000 sq ft. What the Safar page does not publish, and what is therefore not stated anywhere here: any coverage, room-size, square-footage or cubic-volume figure; how long the battery takes to charge; how long a 20 ml fill of oil lasts, which is a different thing from battery runtime; any warranty period; noise level, water resistance or operating temperature; and how many drops a fill takes. The page's in-the-box list and its repeated instruction to add your own fragrance oil do not settle whether fragrance oil arrives with the device, so no claim is made here either way. About air travel: nothing on this page states or implies that Safar may be carried in cabin or hold baggage or taken through airport security. A rechargeable lithium battery is governed by the airline's rules and the reader should check with their airline. Nothing here states what any hotel will or will not permit in its rooms. Limits of this guide: Safar adds a scent to a space. It does not remove, neutralise, mask, cancel or purify any odour, it does not clean or humidify the air, and no SOSA product makes any health, antibacterial or air-purifying claim. No claim is made anywhere on this page about mood, stress, calm, sleep, comfort, homesickness or wellbeing: fragrance is a scent, not a treatment, and where a product name contains a word such as Calm that is a name and not an effect. No claim is made about how any recipient will feel. About origin and affiliation: SOSA Home & Body is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, Maharashtra, and sends orders across India, with no shop, showroom, stockist, counter or warehouse in any other city. SOSA's fragrances are made in India; the Safar device is imported, with China stated as its country of origin. SOSA blends described as hotel-inspired are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand.
